The Laskaridian Commonwealth (French: la Commonaute Laskaridienne), formally and officially known as the Laskaridian Commonwealth Association (French: Association de la Commonaute Laskaridienne) was a geopolitical organization that comprised of various protectorates, colonies and crown-domains of the Kingdom of Laskaridia, a micronation located in California.
The Commonwealth usually acceptedany nation seeking the protection of Laskaridia, and may serve to hold conquered states and polities. The organization was established on October 5th, 2023[1] by a royal edict. The organization's primary goals are to foster the development of various micronations.
Name
The Laskaridian Commonwealth's formal name is the Laskaridian Commonwealth Association. It was designated as such in the Edict on the Commonwealth, which was passed by the King on October 5th, 2023. It is mostly regarded as the Laskaridian Commonwealth to refer to a group of holdings governed by Laskaridia
Governance
The commonwealth is governed directly by the King, who delegates power to the Secretary-General. The Ministry of Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (MFCA) is also responsible for managing territorial admission, management, and expulsion. So far, no expulsions have occurred. The Commonwealth's individual memberships may also run for secretary-general. The Secretary-General is able to enact some laws over the Commonwealth, but can not dissolve the Commonwealth or expel any members. The Commonwealth Board is also a management authority, which primarily votes on membership, though the King of Laskaridia can circumvent this by making an edict.
Military
In the event of a war between a Commonwealth nation and a non-Commonwealth nation, the armies of all commonwealth nations shall be deployed, if deemed efficient. If, due to issues with proximity or legitimacy, a nation's army can not be deployed, diplomatic and political support will be given. The Commonwealth will, in such a case, take actions to mediate any conflict, diplomatic or military, involving one of its members.
Foreign affairs
A royal edict may warrant the absorption of a territory upon its occupation. The following classifications exist for realms of the Commonwealth.
- Dominion. A dominion of the commonwealth is the highest status, and is the only classification allowed to become a direct province. A Dominion is usually a territory that has been settled by Laskaridians and wants to strengthen economic, cultural, and political ties with the mainland.
- Colony. A colony is the second highest rank a territory can attain, a colony is a possession of the mainland. It is not allowed to conduct foreign affairs and is often allowed to raise a colonial army.
- Crownland. A crownland constitutes a personal possession of the monarch of Laskaridia, they have no rights and are often entirely dependent on Laskaridia.
- Protectorate. A protectorate is often times a foreign state or entity that has joined the commonwealth, upon entry, a protectorate will allow the Monarch of Laskaridia to appoint a governor-general as a ceremonial advisor to the head of government, protectorates will retain full rights over diplomacy, territory while receiving military protection, and intermicronational recognition.
