The Vishwamitran Ambassador to the Empire of Austenasia is the official representative of the Rashtradhyaksh of Vishwamitra and the government of Vishwamitra to the monarch and the government of Austenasia. The ambassador is appointed by the Rashtradhyaksh at the recommendation of the Minister of External Affairs. The position is held by Luke Wellmoore who has been in office since 6 August 2024.
Unlike the representative offices in the macronations, the diplomatic missions accredited to the recognized states are full-fledged and often non-residential. Vishwamitra unilaterally recognized Austenasia in August 2019 and began informal relations in August 2020 following Vishwamitra's joining the Grand Unified Micronational, of which Austenasia is a founding member. Formal bilateral and diplomatic relations were established following the signing of a mutual recognition treaty on 26 April 2021. Formal diplomatic appointments were made following the opening of the embassy on 22 September 2021, and the position of the ambassador is regarded as one of the most prestigious posts in the Foreign Service due to the special relationship between Vishwamitra and Austenasia.
History
Vishwamitra unilaterally recognized Austenasia in August 2019 and informal relations started between both nations in September 2020, following Vishwamitra's accession to the Grand Unified Micronational, of which Austenasia is a founder member. Formal diplomatic relations between both states were established on 26 April 2021 upon the signing of a treaty of mutual recognition.
In a move to further strengthen the diplomatic relations between Vishwamitra and the Empire of Austenasia, the Ministry of External Affairs decided to create the non-resident embassy to Austenasia to be accredited from the United Kingdom. The inaugural appointee was Air Chief Marshal Matthew Griffin, then Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Chief of the Air Force, who was appointed on 22 September 2021 and presented his credentials to Emperor Jonathan I of Austenasia, the following day.
Griffin served in office until stepping down on 6 August 2023. He was succeeded by Rafe Hargreaves, the Minister of Finance and Honorary Ambassador to the United Kingdom who served in office until being dismissed a year later. Following the dismissal of Hargreaves, Luke Wellmoore was appointed on 6 August 2024, who has since then been serving in office and was subsequently also appointed as Representative to the United Kingdom. Customarily, the representative to the United Kingdom is appointed as the Ambassador to Austenasia.
Duties
The ambassador's main duty is to present Vishwamitran policies to the government of Austenasia and its people, as well as report Austenasian policies and views to the federal government of Vishwamitra. The ambassador serves as a primary channel of communication between the two nations and plays an important role in treaty negotiations.
