The State of Iscobral, more commonly known as Iscobral, is a self declared sovereign state often called a micronation by external observers. It is located in the United Kingdom but claims Bir Tawil. It was established on 20 March 2023 by first president Vincent Wood.
The nation is under a Parliamentary Republic and has been since foundation. The president serves as the mostly ceremonial head of state and the prime minister serves as the executive head of government.
History
The State of Iscobral was established by Vincent Wood on 20 March 2023, after he was inspired to become a micronationalist after learning about micronations online. Since he founded the nation, he has been serving as president.
On 21 March 2023 the defence forces were established and the national currency and bank were created on 22 March 2023.
Government and Politics
Iscobral is a parliamentary republic. The Assembly of State serves as the national legislature, the prime minister as head of government and the president as head of state.
President
The President of Iscobral is the head of state. The presidency is largely ceremonial, however does wield some powers. The president appoints the prime minister on the advice of parliament, and other ministers on the advice of the PM. They are also required to sign or veto legislation and are also the commander-in-chief of the Iscobrali Defence Forces. The president also acts as a representative of the state as a whole.
Prime Minister
The Prime Minister of Iscobral is the executive head of government. They are appointed by the president on the nomination of the Assembly of State and hold majority of the executive powers. The PM chairs the cabinet and guides the legislative process in parliament. They also nominate ministers for office.
Parliament
The Assembly of State serves as the unicameral parliament of the nation. It is the supreme legislative body of the nation and the government are typically accountable to the assembly.
Military
The national military is the Iscobrali Defence Forces (IDF). The IDF has three branches - the Ground Force, Navy and Air Force. They are overseen by the Department of Defence. The president serves as commander-in-chief but the Minister of Defence and Chief of Defence Staff take more of an active role running the defence forces.
Economy
The national currency is the Exsar. Economic affairs is overseen by the government treasury and national bank. The treasury manages the government budget, as well as taxation. The national bank works alongside the government to set interest rates as well as the printing of currency There is no current taxation in Iscobral.
Culture
The culture of Iscobral is loosely based on western culture, with particular influence from the United States. Running is a popular recreational activity and has been described as the national sport.
Sport
Running has been described as the national sport of the state. No regular state-sponsored sports events take place, but the Department of Culture can set up state-sponsored national events.
Cuisine
Iscobrali cuisine is heavily inspired by European food. The national dish is Francesinha which is borrowed from Portugal. Other popular dishes include burgers, spaghetti and meatballs, pizza, and salmon and cream cheese bagels.
