The Republic of Charbonneau is a self-declared independent state commonly referred to as a micronation. It was established on 13 June 2024, following the descent of the Commonwealth of Faltree into anarchy and subsequent seizure of the City of Charbonneau by Asher Young. Charbonneau is located in the US State of Oregon, and borders the State of Avon.
Etymology
Charbonneau's namesake is Toussaint Charbonneau, a fur trader of Québecois origin who participated in the Lewis and Clark Expedition which passed directly through the area that the Republic is located in 1805.
History
Charbonneau was established as a territory of the State of Faltree on 1 June 2022, being made up of land that was ceded to Faltree by the city of Nolius (modern-day Avon), existing largely as nothing more than a Faltrian exclave in Oregon. After the Commonwealth of Faltree was established on 29 July, Charbonneau was incorporated into the Province of Wellington as its capital city. The Leschi National Rivershore protected area was established in Charbonneau on 29 August 2023 by Logan Medlin. During its time as a part of Wellington, Charbonneau would fall under the authority of Provincial Governor Jonathan Gundy, elected on 30 September 2023, and would be managed physically by Asher Young due to its physical proximity to the State of Avon. On 13 June 2024, the Faltrian Anarchy began following the top-down dissolution of the Commonwealth of Faltree. Young would personally take physical control of Charbonneau, as well as Faltree's holdings bordering the Avonite Territory of Des Ours, founding the Republic of Charbonneau at 5:22 PM PST of that day.
Government
Charbonneau is a totalitarian state ran entirely by the Commandant of Charbonneau. Whether it will adopt a more democratic form of government in the future is unknown.

Culture
Charbonneau is a multilingual state that incorporates strong influences from both the English and French languages. It celebrates its independence day on 13 June of each year.
Geography and climate
Charbonneau is situated upon the Columbia River, bordering the Avonite boroughs of Wishram and Shaniko, while also being in close proximity to the borough of Seaman Island. It is characterized by fields of tall, dry yellow grass, cliffs of flood basalts, and a small beachhead. It experiences intense wind and dryness in the summer season, and a wetter and moderately cold climate during the winter. Charbonneau encompasses an area of 0.542 mi² (1.404 km², 7.22 ac).
