National Capital Constituency is a constituency represented in the Lok Sabha, the unicameral legislature of Vishwamitra and is one of the 6 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state of Purvanchal. This constituency was created in 2019 after the delimitation carried out to increase the seats of the Lok Sabha from the existing 28 to 32. This constituency was established in 2021 prior to the March 2021 general election as a part of the delimitation of the constituencies in the state.
History
The National Capital Constituency was one of the few constituencies which came into existence following the delimitation which took place in January 2021, two months ahead of the March 2021 general election. Two candidates- Prince Saikat and Ștefan Marius Snagoveanu contested against each other in the March 2021 general election but secured equal number of votes and hence the election to the constituency was declared void. Days later, in a bye-election, Michal Nowacki of the National People's Congress was victorious from the seat.
Nowacki was re-elected from the constituency in the November 2021 general election. However, following the establishment of the House of Councillors, he chose to be elected as member of the house and hence tendered his resignation from the Lok Sabha. He was succeeded by Kevin Doan of the same party in a bye-election held in January 2022.
In the 2022 general election, Therence Raphael Pagsisihan of the Vishwamitran National Party was elected unopposed from the constituency.
