The Monarchy of Velpoya is the hereditary head of state of the Kingdom of Veloya. It is the oldest Veloyan office and holds absolute power and is seen as the chief executive of Veloya.
The monarchy was established on 12 July 2023 and initially was semi-constitutional but became absolute.
The current monarch is King Oswald I.
History
The monarchy was established on 12 July 2023 by Oswald I and initially was semi-constitutional but became absolute. As well as this, the monarchy was also going to be designated as head of government but that role was given to the prime minister to help prevent any monarchs from abusing their powers.
Powers
The monarchy holds absolute power and as a result is the most powerful Veloyan office. The monarch typically exercises their powers by usage of royal decrees.
As well as this, the monarchy is granted some specie roles and duties:
- Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces
- Supreme Governor of the Church of Veloya
- Appointing the Prime Minister
- Appointing the Government
- Appointing Military Chiefs
- Appointing a Chief Constable
- Assenting to or Vetoing Legislation from Parliament
Succession
The monarchy is hereditary, passing to members of the royal family on the death of the incumbent monarch. The Succession Laws Decree passed by King Oswald I states that the monarchy's succession laws are male preference primogeniture. The first born male of the reigning monarch is given precedence in the line of succession and is designated heir apparent. The heir apparent is usually given the title of Prince of Hamlyn.
