The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces is a position held by the Monarchy of Veloya, as head of state, over the Veloyan Armed Forces. The office comes with certain powers, duties and functions over the armed forces that are exclusive to the role.

The current commander in chief is King Oswald I.

Functions

In his capacity as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces the King exercises the following powers, duties and functions over the armed forces:

  • Governing, Directing and Controlling the Armed Forces
  • Declare War and Make Peace
  • Deploy the Armed Forces Overseas or Internally
  • Commission All Military Officers
  • Additional Powers in States of Emergency

Military Appointments

The Monarch is responsible for making a large number of appointments to senior military posts. Currently the Commander-in-Chief approves and/or makes appointments at the two-star level and up but is able to appoint officers at other levels, such as regimental commanding officers.

The monarch may also make honorary appointments - making members of the royal family Royal Colonel for a range of army regiments and can also grant honorary commissions to other. Usually honorary commissions are to the rank of colonel, commodore or air commodore.
