Micronational chess champion
The title of (world) chess champion in micronationalism has been held variously by two people across the recorded history of the MicroWiki sector: Sovetus, of Gishabrun and later of Renasia, and Rigas Papadopoulos of St.Charlie. The title is usually intended as analogous to the equivalent macronational world championship title.
The first recorded micronational chess tournament to use the term "championship" was the 2010 Intermicronational Chess Championship, followed by the 2012 Micronational Chess Championship and the 2013 Micronational World Chess Championship, all of which were hosted by various iterations of the Inter-Micronational Chess Federation (IMCF).
Rigas Papadopoulos is arguably still the intermicronational world champion, as the IMCF went inactive following the 2013 instalment of the World Championship and no competition has taken its place to enable the title to be legitimately challenged. The most recent chess tournament on a similar scale to the 2012/13 cycle was the 2023 Austenasian Decennalia Chess Tournament, but this did not claim to be a championship tournament. The World Micronational Chess Federation, an intermicronational organisation that styles itself as the governing body of international chess in micronationalism, disputes Papadopoulos' position as world chess champion, maintaining that the lack of a championship in 2014 meant no champion existed between December 2014 - a year after the 2013 championship - and the present day[1]. It has proposed a 2023 instalment of the World Chess Championship to resolve the lack of a champion.
