The Meritian Military Forces (MMF) is the official uniformed service of the Empire of Meritia. Established to succeed that of the Northio Armed Forces on 7 September 2021, the MMF from it’s creation has been in possession of a very large arsenal and wide range of military gear, which has prompted its Chief Commander, Emperor Joseph I, to declare it as perhaps the most technologically powerful military in all of micronationalism. The MMF is a branch of the Meritian Department of Defense, however the Chief Commander outranks the Secretary of Defense, being the supreme commander of all military-related affairs.
History
Early Establishment
At it’s establishment, the Meritian Military was relatively unorganized, and only had a single member, the Chief Commander. This changed quickly as by later in the year they had risen to 3 active duty soldiers, a point which they would remain at for quite some time, being a strictly volunteer force and only giving the option for conscription during a time of war, however this is not usually necessary.
Meritian-Laniatian Annexation War
Quickly following the MMF’s creation was the Meritian-Laniatian Annexation War, or 14 Day War, fought between Meritia and the proclaimed Territory of Laniatus, which fully borders Meritia’s small Province District 05. This was a short and mostly uneventful conflict, however it did result in the Meritian annexation of the Laniatian Capital, which led to an eventual peace treaty between the two leaders of each belligerent on 24 October, 2021, just 14 days after the declaration of war on 10 October. Both sides took no casualties, and while officially a draw, the MMF often considers it a Meritian victory, due to their occupation of the Laniatian Capital which led to the declaration of neutrality between both powers.
Dilu War
The Dilu War was a major conflict of Dilu Island, and the result of a dispute between the De Jure claimants of Dilu, established through law, and the De Facto Zepranan claims to the island by Terry McKeen III. This was a short war, however resulted in a resounding Meritian and Allied victory, with Zeprana shortly after dropping all claims of the island. No invasions ever occurred, however were planned by both sides during the event. The primary units of the MMF involved in the war were located in New England.
Meritian Border Crisis
Originally starting off in mainland Meritia, the Meritian Border Crisis is conflict between the MMF, Meritian Border Security Agency, and foreigners primarily of the United States. It began with great amounts of foreigner activity at mainland Meritia, specifically around the southern borders of Province District 01, and possibly within the Territory of Sinumia. The activity continued in the area until a major escalation in July of 2022, when a high-profile border breach into Province District 01 was carried by three foreigners of the US, later determined to be a “threat to Meritian society” by the government. These individuals were denied entry originally by Joseph I, however saw the opportunity to cross into Meritia while the Emperor was away from the mainland on private vacation. These escalations were also notified to have occurred in Meritian Dilu, where possibly even recreational drugs were smuggled into the Protectorate. This led to backlash from the Emperor against Protector Conor Newman, claiming he did not carry out his title’s namesake in these situations. He was promptly made a Honorary Officer of the National Police Department, and ordered to “do his job” by Joseph I. Following the high profile breech in the mainland, Meritia saw the lack of organized border enforcement in their country, leading to the creation of the Border Security Agency, who then became the primary enforcers of border integrity, replacing the MMF almost entirely by later 2022. The crisis remains today, although activity has stagnated in both areas, and Meritia now gives up Meritian Dilu to Fontasia during the summer period, hoping to avoid any further smudges in the reputation of Meritian Border Security in the area, which is very popular to foreigners in summer.
Merito-American War
The most recent conflict of the MMF, the Merito-American War was a major conflict fought between the Empire of Meritia and United States from 5 October 2022 to 25 December 2022, when it was ended by the Christmas Truce Treaty on Meritian terms. The war saw heavy involvement by the Meritian Military Forces, specifically the Meritian Armed Forces, who carried out large scale land invasions of the United States, however additional support was also seen from the Meritian Online Forces and their soldiers. The military during the occupations of US land would temporarily foresee the administration of these regions, with the Chief Commander as the head of this military government. The army on the ground faced no manned resistance to their invasions, however did encounter barbed wire which was presumed to be an “attempt to keep them out” during the Battle of Sticks & Barbs, named respectively for this incident.

Meritian Armed Forces
Perhaps the most active of the three branches, the Meritian Armed Forces (MAF) was one of two original branches of the MMF, the other being the Navy. The Army is overseen by the branch’s Chief General, who is appointed and terminated directly by the will of the MMF’s Chief Commander. Just as all the other uniformed service branches, the MAF is accompanied by three rank categories: administrative, officers, and enlisted. The highest achievable officer rank is General, and the highest achievable enlisted rank is Chief Major Sergeant, the head of the enlisted personnel who is appointed by the administration of the Army.
The second of two original MMF branches, the Meritian Naval Forces (MNF) serves all maritime military purposes of the country. Likewise to the Army, it was created on 7 September 2021 at the establishment of Meritia, and continues to this day to maintain its powerful fleet of 3 different vessels, 1 of which is of considerable size and capability. The MNF also has access to an even larger vessel, which they may temporarily commission under their ranks if such is deemed necessary in war. The MNF is led by the Chief Admiral, who like the Chief General is directly chosen by the Chief Commander of the MMF. It also has three rank categories, all of the same name, with the highest officer rank being Admiral and the highest enlisted rank being the appointed Chief Master Petty Officer.
Meritian Online Forces
The Meritian Online Forces (MOF) are the newest of the three total branches which comprise the MMF, having been established for the purpose of serving online enlistees and cyber warfare in Meritia. Led by the appointed Chief Cyber General, it serves a vital purpose in the online sector of the nation’s affairs.
