May 2016 Children's Group presidential election

A snap presidential election took place in Children's Group on 29 May 2016, only two months after the presidential election held in March 2018 to elect the nation's next president. Incumbent President Tanishkaa Patranabish expressed her strong interest and desire to contest for a consecutive second term in office and was subsequently declared as the official candidate of the ruling alliance. Since no other candidates had filled their nominations, she was declared unopposed elect as the president the same day.
Background
In the presidential election which took place on 21 March 2018, then Chief Justice Tanishkaa Patranabish defeated incumbent president Varuna Sriraya with a big margin of 6–2. However, in May 2016, the government announced that snap presidential and vice-presidential election shall be held on 29 May 2016 to elect new office-holders. However, incumbent president Tanishkaa Patranabish announced that she would contest the election to seek a consecutive second term in office.
Subsequently, she filed her nominations with the support of all the three parties which formed the United Progressive Alliance comprising of the Secular Party, Independent Party, and the Freedom Party. Following the scrutiny of the nominations, it was found that no other candidates have filed their nominations and hence, she was declared unopposed elected to the office of the president.
Other potential candidates
Prior to the presidential election, it was speculated that incumbent president Tanishkaa Patranabish could be replaced or may not seek a second term in office. The potential candidates included:

- Anoushkaa Patranabish, Deputy Prime Minister
- Sarala Baishya, Minister of Culture and former president
- Arnab Sil, Minister of Finance
