List of Halyards

A large number of places in Micronationalism bare the name Halyards, largely as a result of the re-use of the name for regions with a connection to West Halyards in Uberquiesenberg. The name's origin comes from the term "halyard", which refers to a type of sailing rope used to hoist ladder, sail, flag, or yard. The term halyard comes from the phrase, 'to haul yards'. The first known use of the name Halyards in Micronationalism is in 2014, at the foundation of the then Kingdom of Uberquiesenberg.

Halyards/West Halyards

Founded as Halyards in 2014, West Halyards has been the capital of Uberquiesenberg throughout multiple inceptions of the nation. It is also the original Halyards, though since the foundation of East Halyards in 2018, it has commonly been referred to as West Halyards despite officially just being called the Mayoralty of Halyards. Therefore, the origin of the names of all other Halyards is directly descended from this Halyards. Between 2016 and 2017, Halyards was enjoined to Mercia under the colonial rule of Uberquiesenberg. Briefly, between 23 May 2017 and 2 July 2017, Halyards was a part of a semi-autonomous Uberquiesenberg in Mercia - an event which created the "City of Halyards" as distinct from the Lord-Mayorate, and briefly meant that Halyards itself did not fully serve as the capital of Uberquiesenberg. During 2020, and the Union between Uberquiesenberg and Esse, Halyards had been organised under a Lord-Mayor. However, recent constitutional reforms to Uberquiesenberg have created a municipal Democracy within Halyards.

City of Halyards

Created on 23 May 2017, the City of Halyards is only nominally distinct from Halyards through the consequences of the Amended 26th of August Treaty of Uberquiesenberg Concession Bill passed in Mercia. The City briefly served as the legal capital of Uberquiesenberg between the semi-autonomous Uberquiesenberg, until the Lord-Mayorate of Halyards was restored as the Capital through the passage of the Uberquiesenberger Constitution and Act of National Institutions on 2 July 2017. Since then, the City has been territoriality connected to Halyards but is entitled to a separate member of the Uberquiesenberg legislature, the Angelegenheitenort, by virtue of having it's own Régional.

New Halyards

New Halyards was founded as the County of Newton in March 2017, but later became known as New Halyards on 25 May 2017 after the Treaty of New Halyards was de jure in effect in the Essian Commonwealth. However, legally, Uberquiesenberg, then the semi-autonomous Palatinate, did not take possession of the territory in condominium with Esse until 12 June 2017 with the passage of the treaty through both nations' legislatures. For a short period of time, therefore, New Halyards was also effectively a condominium between Esse and Mercia, which still practiced overlordship of Uberquiesenberg until 2 July 2017. The fate of New Halyards is now legally obscure. It is assumed that the territory is no longer claimed by Esse after it's dissolution in March 2018. However, Uberquiesenberg never formally renounced its claim to the territory but does not currently recognize it as part of its core territories in Uberessenberg.

Michael (Halyards)

Michael was founded on 23 June 2020 by Newton von Uberquie and Lord Matthew in order to greatly enhance relations between the Commonwealth of Essexia, Uberessenberg and the Abeldane Empire. Commonly referred to as 'Essexian Halyards', due to its close vicinity and border with the Halyards complex, Michael is closely related to Halyards and the people who live there. This is reflected in the flag of Michael, which shares the common claret and black colour scheme as well as the use of the Nordic Cross associated with Uberquiesenberg.
