Kənd Oblast was an oblast of Gishabrun SAR, Renasia. It bordered Azerbaijan.

Etymology

The word Kənd means "village" in Azerbaijani, the main spoken language of the area.

History

Kənd Oblast was proposed as a claim for Renasia by Sovetus, Gishabrun's Director of Economic Profitability, while on a visit to his relatives' farm in Imishli region, Azerbaijan, in June 2014. The claim was accepted by the Gishabruni Board of Directors and the Guntanu'tl on 23 June 2014. Its resident Ambassador was Sovetus, under the understanding that he would consistently spend a month or two each year living in Kənd Oblast.

Kənd Oblast was finally returned to Canadian sovereignty when Gishabrun transitioned to a non-territorial entity, on 5 May 2015.

Legality of claim

Kənd Oblast was claimed as an oblast (that is, an inhabited subdivision of Gishabrun) based on the assumption that Sovetus spending around one month every year in the oblast would qualify him as a permanent resident. This was true under the Constitution of the Tsarist Empire of Gishabrun[1], which was still partly in force in Gishabrun SAR until 2 June 2013. However, by the time Kənd Oblast was claimed, the new Constitution of Gishabrun SAR required citizens to sleep in an area for "half the years' nights" for it to be considered an oblast[2]. Based on this criterion, and the requirement in Article 3 for a krai (uninhabited region) to be located within 5km of an existing oblast, it appears that Gishabrun's claim of Kənd Oblast was illegal.

However, since the land claim was explicitly accepted by Renasia's Guntanu'tl, Kənd Oblast was apparently a valid Renasian claim, which was immediately assigned to the authority of Gishabrun SAR by the power of the Renasian government.

In any case, this issue was apparently not known during the period in which Kənd Oblast existed, and was never brought to the Supreme Judge or any local courts.

Geography

The climate of what was Kənd Oblast is cold and semi-arid. The area of Kənd Oblast consisted of a farm, with chickens and cows being raised for food on the property. It bordered Azerbaijan on all sides.
