The Great Council of Garal (Spanish: Gran Consejo de Garal), known informally as the Great Council, is the name of the unicameral legislature of the Sovereign State of Garal promulgated by the Dux of Garal, H.M.S.H Ferr Garal, which was established on 3 February 2023 (15º Winter of year I in GC)

History

It was created on 3 February 2023 (15º Winter of year I in GC) by Ferr Garal after the foundation of the Sovereign State of Garal. Great Council appointed Ferr Garal to Dux of Garal by public acclaim. Until its creation its function was only advisory but since 27 may 2023 (8º Late Spring of year II in GC) it also assumes the legislative function.

Composition and functions

The Great Council is the general assembly of all citizens of the Sovereign State of Garal. It meets at least once a year and citizens can submit petitions to the Dux.

The Dux presides and leads the meetings of the Great Council but he can delegate this responsibility to other members. When this magistrature is vacant presides the meeting the most ancient citizen.

The main functions of the Great Council are to elect the Dux of Garal, when this magistrature is vacant, and the development and adoption of laws, but under its subsequent sanction reserved to the Dux. It serves also as an advisory body to the Dux.
