Grand Lady of Easway
The Grand Lady, officially the Grand Lady of the Easwegian Common Union; Ez: Lenderrezerre vi Liydoqezerrye; is either the associate partner of the Grand Councillor, the co-commander-in-chief, or in vacancy of that, if permitted, of the Tannustad of the House of Zerri. The position was established in the Forty Ninth Amendment on 8 April 2023. There have been three holders of the office, the current of which since 26 February 2024 being Swapardeshi, serving alongside Tannustad Emizerri.
If the partner is male, the title is Grand Gentleman. Both titles are also referred to as Tannudhara, meaning supporter of the heavens.
Origins of the position
Traditionally, it has been seen as incumbent in Easwegian culture that the head of the nation chose someone to act as their deputy with the neccessary moral capacity to challenge their decisions, whilst the head maintains appropriate rational to consider these challenges. Following the 2017 Easwegian Reawakening, many in the National Electoral Commission asked the young bachelor and Paramount Founder Emizerri to consider a hostess role, influenced by Lady Washington of the United States. Emizerri initially declined in favour of a collegial body and from 2020 to 2023 had 15 Regent Councillors serving alongside him as vice chief of state.
After the position of Regent Councillor diminished in relevance with the emergence of the General Director, as well as rumours of Emizerri considering resigning at the end of 2023, there was a fresh push early that year for a hostess position, which was eventually agreed upon in the Forty Ninth Amendment to the Constitution of Easway. The title of Grand Lady became official on Easter 2023.
Railiyde of British Nepali descent, a member of the Cyber Council Easwegian Alliance and the first female representative of Easway (19 December 2017 - 19 December 2018) was retrospectively assigned as the first Grand Lady of Easway. Simultaneously, Sannu Raizerni of Nepali descent became the second Grand Lady of Easway, serving from Easter 2023 to the end of Emizerri's term on 25 November 2023.
Assembly President Swapardeshi, an Indian Easwegian who became the second ever female representative and the first to serve in the post Provisional-era, succeeded in the role on 26 February 2024, again as the associated partner to Emizerri, although as Emizerri was no longer Grand Councillor the role was tied to his office within the House of Zerri. Swapardeshi adopted the title of Tannudhara (supporter of the heavens) instead of Grand Lady, inspired by Emizerri's title of Tannustad (master of the heavens) and Yashodhara, the wife of Buddha, due to ancient Ezaari religion.
