Glastieven N was a Glastieven statesman who was part of Glastieve from its origins until he left in November 2018. N began his micronational career in 2014 and led the one-man Democratic Republic of Howe from October 2014 to August 2016. He was a co-founder of the First Republic of Glastieve and held various positions related to mapping and connections to the territory in the First Republic and the Second Republic until his resignation from politics in May 2018. N won praise for his autonomous individual work whilst his short temper and violent rivalry with Glastieven R were a source of controversy. Scholars have recently taken an interest in his arguments against New Secessionist policies and their eventual influence on the Holy Commonwealth.

N was friends with Lyra of Little Skovaji in primary and secondary school and they were jointly responsible for bringing micronationalism to the group. E shocked Lyra in 2018 by claiming that N had never genuinely been part of the friendship group, especially not prior to 2016, instead being held on its periphery by their bilateral friendship. E and Lyra have continued to debate these claims over the last five years without reaching a clear consensus. N was a controversial figure during his tenure in the group, openly disliked by R and U, but praised by Lyra as a diligent contributor to the micronation. He left Glastieve in 2018 over his hatred of Lyra. They and Khalia of the Moon Pools have seen this as a low point in Glastieven history, though Pontius of the Holy Road has characterised it as "taking out the trash". He initially continued to associate with other Glastievens and only avoided group sessions when Lyra was present, but by October 2019 he had disappeared completely.

Early life

N was born in 2003 in Exeter, a city in Devon.

Primary school friendship with Campbell

N attended the same primary school as C, K, U and δ. In 2012, N became friends with δ, the two becoming friends initially over their shared love of trains. N sometimes joined U and δ in playing Black Hole Hulk, the earliest iteration of Glastieven mythology, though he never became a regular player. N's character was a human London Underground driver from around 2010 who had become involved somehow with the Fourth Army; he revived this role briefly in 2014 when he and δ tried and failed to revive BHH as primary-school-style imaginative play. N's friendship with Campbell endured over the summer, and when they began attending secondary school the two were already close.

Early and Classical Acteriendia

Trains Club and TEOTDROH, September 2014 to July 2015

N began attending secondary school in September 2014, when he and δ founded Trains Club, and on 16 October, N created the second of the Acteriendian model countries, the Democratic Republic of Howe (DRoH), in response to δ's creating the Nation of Bedroom two days earlier. Both Trains Club and the Acteriendian model countries were important parts of Acteriendian history. At some point in either September or October, N became friends with A, who was attending the school at the time, and A joined Trains Club along with δ's friends V and another never given a uniliteral code.

The flag of TEOTDROH

DRoH's initial claims were over N's house, and the head of state was an unelected prime minister, who was considered to be equivalent in diplomatic presence to an emperor. The flag of the nation was based on that of Laos, with a paler shade of blue and a black wireframe cube drawn in the white circle. N codified the laws of DRoH in a small booklet; controversially, one such law was a criminal penalty for referring to the country by the wrong name or using an unauthorised acronym. He also created a currency, the token, and created banknotes by hand using colour post-it notes given to him by δ.

N and δ encouraged A and V to create their own model countries through Trains Club. V created the Kingdom of Smith and A created B'lardland (sometimes considered an abbreviation of the longer name Ballardland), the latter of which was considered DRoH's closest ally. The four model countries all considered themselves part of an organisation called the Exeter United Nations (EUN), and met and interacted through Trains Club. In contrast to DRoH and the Nation of Bedroom, however, the Kingdom of Smith and B'lardland had very little domestic activity and existed purely through their interactions with the other countries of the Exeter United Nations.

DRoH and the Nation of Bedroom competed with one another, with each aiming to be the better micronation. While δ aimed to expand his influence over the other nations of the EUN, N focused instead on domestic affairs, designing flags for each of his country's provinces; creating a website for the country using Wix.com; granting citizenship to a number of his pets; and adopting the national motto Maius cerebrum potentia musculus potentia (Google Translate Latin: brain power is greater than muscle power). When the EUN was abolished on 1 December following the collapse and abolition of the Kingdom of Smith and B'lardland, δ acknowledged the superiority of the DRoH, admitting that N had "overtaken" him in their competition.

Transitgate, Spingate, and the April 2017 controversy

On 26 February, when preparations were still being made for the country to join the micronational community, R pulled δ aside at a meeting of the proposed cabinet, informing δ that he would leave the micronation unless δ was willing to conspire with him to exclude N from the organisation. Hoping to engage in intrigue that would ultimately keep both R and N in the project, δ agreed, and proposed that he and R could force N to resign from the cabinet by passing a law that would make contracting transport to Glastieve Transit illegal, and then subsequently manufacturing the impression of a "corruption scandal" over N's awarding an illegal government contract to a company he chaired.

δ suggested to R that they create a document titled Operation Transitgate in the Glastieve Shared Google Drive detailing their plan, and that they fill this document with "restricted/classified" notices. His intention was that N would find the document, and that R would be blamed for Transitgate, which would ensure that he had kept his promise to R without actually losing N from the republic. As R was then known for making frequent typographical and grammatical errors, δ filled the document with such errors (e.g. referring to N as the "Minister for Infrastructure, Public Safety and Judicial Affairs") to make it seem authentic, and placed it in a folder labelled "PRIVATE - TRANSITGATE" so that N would assume that it was not something that he was supposed to see.

Meanwhile, N developed a reputation as one of the most active and effective ministers in the first republic, attending every cabinet meeting in the Foundation Period. On 16 March the cabinet unanimously passed his Planning Permission Act 2017, which set up a system of planning permission based around a typewriter N had recently bought and was excited to use. He also granted himself planning permission to begin building a "monument" within Glastieve, after δ told the cabinet that the republic needed to establish a physical presence within its territory to advance its Linden score. N also created a logo for his department, which is still in use as the channel icon for Lord Handkerchief, his gaming YouTube channel.

N discovered the document planning Transitgate on 16 March and confronted R, who told N that he had been to the "Microwiki high court" and that the so-called high court would be "shutting Glastieve down". N sent screenshots of this conversation to δ, who created The Glastieven to carry a news report on the issue, which exposed R as the author of the Transitgate document and also revealed several of his other lies, including his claim to have gone to the MicroWiki High Court and his invention of four fictional "special advisors". The whole event was referred to in the news report as Transitgate-Spingate, and is now called the Spingate controversy.

On 20 April, partly in response to Spingate, N called a vote of no confidence in R. He had hoped to remove him from the government entirely, but δ persuaded him to change the motion to one that would force R to adopt a less senior position within the republic. The motion passed successfully, and in response, R resigned his citizenship of Glastieve. The cabinet tasked N with either finding a replacement for R or calling an election - N chose his friend ζ to succeed Matthews, but with the April 2017 controversy looming, δ (illegally) overrode N and instead announced that the decision would be delayed until an election 27 April.

N avoided participating in the April 2017 controversy, and following its conclusion advocated strongly for separating the republic from the Superstructure. Both because of this conviction and their friendship, N supported ζ in the 27 April election and led the "Independentist" faction. Despite opinion polling predicting a victory for the Acteriendian faction, N's campaigning was successful in winning over the votes of former members of Classical Acteriendia, and ζ won the election. When ζ resigned suddenly on 5 May, N supported U being appointed as the replacement reshuffle advisor.

Second term as Infrastructure and Geography Minister

N was appointed to serve a second term as the Minister for Infrastructure, Transportation and Geographical Affairs in the May 2017 Cabinet reshuffle. He agreed to allow A, who had been given little work to do as his special advisor, to transfer to δ's new Department of Economics, Finance and Governmental Communications as a senior diplomatic officer. Following the reshuffle, N began to lose his reputation as one of the republic's most active and sensible ministers. This was primarily due to conflict with R and slowly declining interest. In addition, as the republic became the core of the new cultural group, E took more of an interest in becoming influential, and new member T rose in prominence due to his activity and interest, leading to N's being surpassed as de facto second-in-command, which further reduced his interest.

At the cabinet meeting on 18 May, N became involved in a physical fight with R after the latter made rude comments about him, and then stormed out of the meeting in anger. N felt strongly that ζ should be part of Glastieve, and managed to persuade him to rejoin provided that his role would be "private-sector security guard to the cabinet", a role that would include breaking up any future fights (and by implication expelling R from the meeting). After having disgraced himself at the first post-reshuffle cabinet meeting, at the next two N tried to persuade the cabinet to support ζ's becoming a security guard, but was twice rejected.

N became involved in a dispute with δ on 29 June over Evonia, a small province of the Khanate of Nedland that was within the territory of the First Republic of Glastieve. δ had given the land to Nedland while Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Skovaji in 2016, and had since forgotten the claim; he revived it in June while joining the Khanate and told N to add it to maps of Glastieve. N said that the area δ claimed was Evonia had been part of Glastieve's claims from the earliest maps that had been made and accused δ of using his de facto leadership of Glastieve and his representation of the country in the community to arrogantly make decisions without consulting him. They agreed to take it to the supreme court in N vs δ, where δ won on a technicality but was censured by the court.

When δ created the Legislative Convocation of Glastieve later that evening, N joined the Egalitarian Party, opposing the two alternatives as they were run by R and one of his close friends, S.

While N was fairly uninvolved with the wider conflict of the Matthewsgate controversy, it was his mutual acrimony with R that actually triggered the famous night. N suggested in the "Glastieve serious" chatroom that a national lottery should be created as part of the Glastieven Economic Programme; R opposed the suggestion and called N "stupid" for making it, which set off the night's initial argument. After the well-documented events of the evening, in which N played a significant part, he issued this statement to The Glastieven in response to R's leaving the country (referred to as his "resignation from Glastieve"):

I believe that R’s resignation will not hinder the progress of Glastieve but rather streamline the government; make it functional. R's resignation shall be like the chains that hold the nation back have been severed. Without the former minister, fewer disagreements, arguments, shouting matches, physical skirmishes and verbal, emotional abuse to other respectful members of the Glastieven Cabinet.

On 23 July, around a week after the controversy and the subsequent Operation Glass Crystal, aimed at ensuring that S stayed in Glastieve and trying to bring R back, N was one of the four ministers to vote in favour of the Anti-Cuntery and Dickishness Act, which would have essentially exiled R. Following the Act's failure, N's activity in Glastieve declined further.

Third term as Infrastructure and Geography Minister

In the July 2017 Cabinet reshuffle, N was appointed for a third time as the Minister for Infrastructure, Transportation and Geographical Affairs, becoming the only minister to hold the same position for three terms. The reshuffle advisors, δ and T, actually attempted to change the name of his title to Infrastructure, Transportation and Territorial Affairs, but N ignored this change and simply continued using the old title; after a short period, δ and T relented and official documents reflected his preference. His department's logo was formally abolished as it did not fit the format δ and T proscribed, but N kept using it anyway, and N was instructed to create an Evonian name for his department, which he did not do.

N opposed the changes that δ and T were pushing, and did his best to ignore them, refusing to engage with the Economy, the Evonian language or the Three-Month Plan. In September, N joined with ζ and E in opposing the National Identity Act 2017, which aimed to establish various new national symbols (e.g. a national anime) and protect the use of Homestuck-based typing quirks, which were being used at the time by T and δ. He believed that the Act was an attempt to homogenize the organic culture of Acteriendia by forcing everyone to acknowledge the interests of particular people within the group as part of their culture, saying "I believe that a culture should be forged, not forced".

On 26 September, N passed the only piece of secondary legislation in the First Republic's history, the Public Roadways and Pedestrian Spaces Act. This was a strongly secessionist law that established Glastieven regulations for the various roads and paths in the territory, some of which went against U.K. law. E, δ and T were all supportive of the Act, but R was highly critical of it, accusing N of being "undemocratic" for electing not to propose it to the cabinet as primary legislation, and saying that its contradicting British law rendered it "unenforceable" and "could get Glastieve into trouble" with the police.

At the cabinet meeting on 5 October, N secured approval to found the Glastieve Space Agency, a private company that aimed to create a Glastieven space programme. Its subsequent activities included photographs of the moon taken within the territory, and experiments with film canisters and effervescent tablets that took place in his garden.

After leaving Glastieve, N refused to attend group events due to δ's presence, and likewise refused to be in Glastieven chatrooms. However, he initially remained friends with ζ, E, T, U and Z. N would commonly interact with the group when δ was not present and then leave as soon as he came close. After a period, ζ also stopped attending group events and left the group's chatrooms, and it is generally assumed that he did so in solidarity with N against δ.

Career outside micronationalism

In February 2019, N began uploading gaming videos to a YouTube channel, Lord Handkerchief. As of 17 June 2019, this channel uploads approximately once a week, but has only three subscribers and a total of 112 views across its fourteen videos.
