The Excelsioran Revolution, also known as the Republican Revolution, was a civil war and revolution, as well as a period of radical change, within the Excelsioran state. The revolution began 29 July 2022 after the Invictus Republic of Excelsior repealed its treaty to protect the Excelsioran Monarchy, causing Invictisian Premier and President of Excelsior Silas Wurnbash to declare an uprising against the monarchy and the Sovereign of Excelsior, Queen Finn, on behalf of Invictus. This action caused multiple other government officials to join in the uprising against the monarchy, which eventually led to Chancellor Nicolas Caiazzo declaring that his administration and the Excelsioran Interior Government supported the efforts and would move to occupy royal property by force via the National Guard within Capitol Palace. The Republic Act, which abolished the monarchy and nobility, was also introduced to the Parliament on 29 July 2022 after protections on the monarchy were repealed, and was passed 30 July 2022, signaling the end of the revolution.
The revolution sparked outcry from multiple micronations over its revolutionary and undemocratic nature, including Georgienstine, Trasona, Bryantia, and Gapla.
Buildup
In the weeks preceding the revolution, republicanist sentiment within Excelsior had seen major growth, as many Excelsioran politicians declared their opposition to the monarchy. Many citizens felt it was unnecessary, undemocratic, and that it made Excelsior more confusing, as the monarchy contradicted Excelsior's republican model of government. Attempts had been made to remove the monarchy via legislative means, but after protections on the monarchy were established by President Silas Wurnbash via executive order, removing the monarchy through the legislature was rendered impossible. Wurnbash along with his Democratic Party had been staunch defenders of the monarchy from its beginnings and were opposed to any reform on the monarchy.
Outbreak
On 29 July 2022, following an internal vote in favor of repealing protections to the Monarchy by the Council of the Invictus Republic, a constituent republic of Excelsior led by Silas Wurnbash, Wurnbash announced that he, along with Invictus, were "declaring war on the Monarchy", beginning a civil war. In 2020, Invictus had signed a treaty with the Monarchy to protect it from all domestic threats. This was repealed by the Invictus council, which led to Wurnbash's announcement. Following this, many citizens were shocked by his quick change in opinion to the monarchy, but many celebrated his decision and declared support for his civil war, which later became known as the Excelsioran Revolution.
Government action
Following his initial announcement, President Wurnbash issued a legal presidential executive order to repeal legal protections on the monarchy. Chancellor Nicolas Caiazzo was informed of the situation unfolding at 18:00 and, and as a long time advocate against the monarchy, declared his administration and the Excelsioran Interior Government would support the revolution. Caiazzo also proclaimed support for the revolution as Premier of Grandsia and condemned the Monarchy.
After this, the National Guard of Excelsior occupied royal property within Capitol Palace and informed Queen Finn of the situation, to which she responded "that's stupid" before leaving the occupied wings of the palace to evade the National Guard. Following this, foreign leaders were informed of the situation, including President of Georgienstine Raphaël Olivier, who declared that "until I receive proof of a more democratic and professional attempt at dissolving the monarchy, [Georgienstine] will not be recognizing the changes in government happening in Excelsior."
