The Tsardom of North York, more commonly known as North York, is a micronation in Upstate New York founded in October of 2020 by Tsar Robert IV. While founded in 2020, the roots of the nation go back to 2018 with the Republic of Arstotzka, also known as Terra. Through the years, the people, and the nation, have outlasted numerous crises such as civil war, inactivity, and failed leadership. However, we have persevered to form the country we are today.
The Tsardom is an absolute monarchy led by Tsar Robert IV. The Tsar is responsible for all parts of the government. He is solely responsible for the creation, implementation, and enforcement of all laws and regulations within the nation. As a monarch, it is his responsibility to create laws for the betterment of the people. Should the monarch resign or pass while in office, the firstborn son shall become the new monarch. If no one fits the role, the Tsar shall keep a list of successors in his will.
The third paragraph should give an overview of the nation's relation to the broader micronational movement and the nation's foreign policy. The Tsardom tends to lean toward a conservative position and worldview, with main focuses on the preservation of history, relaxed control of business, and policy with roots in religion. The tsardom wants to be a place where businesses can start and thrive with little regulation compared to other macrostates. In addition, the nation tends to lean towards an isolationist position, however, it has been a member and chairman of the Micronational Assembly.
Etymology
The term North York relates to where the nation was founded and where it has its land claim. The nation was founded and to this day holds its territory in upstate New York.
History
The Golden Age
The history of the Tsardom is the story of many nations starting with the republic of Arstotzka. Founded on the 18th of June 2018 by Chancellor Robert, Arstotzka was a communist nation that drew inspiration from the game papers please. However, after a few months and criticism from other nations, the name was changed to the Workers Republic of Onontakeka. Onontakeka was the most prosperous time in the nation's history as the nation had well over 200 citizens all across the globe. That would come to a halt in 2019 when an issue regarding Saspearian would lead the nation into a civil war. After one week of fighting in the forests surrounding the nation, Robert and a few other citizens were exiled after losing the war. The war left approximately 60% of participants with either short-term injury or illness, and another 8% with long-term injury.
The Dark Age
From August 2019 until March 2020 there was no main nation in the Tsardom's history, however on the 31st of March 2020, Robert, along with other leaders on the anti-Saspearian forces would form the new nation Kingdom of Williamsburg. The kingdom was heavily inspired by Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. There was a provisional government set up by Robert with Dylan and Matthew, that would be responsible for the creation of a new constitution and government. After many months, on the 29th of June, 2020, the Kingdom was transformed into the Republic of Williamsburg. Unfortunately, the republic quickly became inactive.
The new beginning
Due to inactivity, the republic of Norcross would dissolve and Robert would take 14 residents to form his next nation, the Tsardom of Norcross. For the first time, Robert peddled the idea of an absolute monarchy, where he was the lone official in government. The tsar would appoint ministers to help him with different aspects of government such as a national budget and a standing military. Unfortunately in March of 2021, war would be declared by his former nation of Onontakeka. Unlike the previous civil war, this was a war of words and persuasion. Fortunately, the war only lasted several days and peace broke with an agreement that neither nation would bother each other in the future. The Tsardom would remain somewhat active until the 10th of July 2022.
Present Day
On the 10th of July 2022, the nation would be transformed into the Tsardom of North York, its current title. Robert would banish all but a few citizens to keep those who were active and get rid of those who were not. The Tsardom would remain active on the inter-micronational scale, most notable in the Micronational Assembly, where it would become a council member for the third time. On the seventh of February, 2024, Robert decided it was time for the nation to grow. He ordered two new acts to be made. The first, the outward act, would call for the creation of a micro wiki page and website to advertise the nation. The second act, the written act, was created with the hope of having all government papers put into writing. A constitution, as well as other important documents, would be made due to these acts.
The Government
The Tsardom is an Absolute Monarchy, and all power lies with the Tsar. The Tsar can appoint advisors, known as ministers to inform him of their areas of expertise. The Tsar's policy-making decisions come from the large influence of these ministers. In addition, the Tsar is the head judge of the nation. Anyone charged with breaking the laws will be brought to him and he will decide their fate.
Political parties
There is one political party in the nation, known as the Royalists. The Royalists pledge loyalty to the Tsar and act in ways beneficial to him. To gain a government position, such as a minister or leading member of the military, one must be a documented Royalist.
Law and order
The head judge in the nation is the Tsar. Any major crimes involving the nation are brought before him so he can decide the verdict and punishment of the defendant. However, the Tsar can appoint a lower judge called the people's judge to cover any lower-level crimes that are not to the level needed for the Tsar.
Military
The Tsardom's military is led by the commander-in-chief, Tsar Robert IV. Currently, the military only has one branch, the cyber force. The cyber force is focused on electronic warfare and fighting wars digitally. However, there are plans to extend the military to include an army.
Foreign relations
The Tsardom is a member of the Micronational Assembly and recognizes all nations participating and observing it.
