About the Kingdom of Romkerhall
The Kingdom of Romkerhall is a sovereign nation located within an old estate in the Lower Saxony region of Germany. Re-established in 1988, it claims to be the world's smallest kingdom, although its history predates this declaration. Originally a hunting lodge commissioned by King George V of Hanover in the 19th century, the hotel became independent after World War I when it was not included in any parishes by the new Weimar Republic. This left it as an unincorporated territory, known as "municipality free," which was reinforced during parish redrawings in the 1970s. Baron Lechner purchased the lodge and established the Kingdom of Romkerhall, developing it with elegant bedrooms, a Royal Hall, and a restaurant. The country created its own flag, currency, border, website, visa system, souvenirs, anthem, and economy, primarily based on hotel revenue. Princess Erina of Saxony (born 23 July 1921, died 16 February 2010) was the Queen of the Kingdom of Romkerhall.
Today, Romkerhall is a restaurant with adjoining accommodation.
The MES Planning Committee visited Romkerhall from 23 - 24 March 2024.
