The Kingdom of Romkerhall is a sovereign nation located within an old estate in the Lower Saxony region of Germany. Re-established in 1988, it claims to be the world's smallest kingdom, although its history predates this declaration. The micronation is located in the Oker Valley, near the Oker reservoir and not far from the tourist towns of Bad Harzburg, Clausthal-Zellerfeld and the old imperial city of Goslar, whose historic town centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Kingdom of Romkerhall is a micronation and justifies its existence by the fact that this area - which once belonged to the Kingdom of Hanover even after the monarchy was abolished in 1918 - was never assigned to a municipality. This part of Germany has been completely forgotten, so to speak, and is still without a municipality today. King George V built his hunting lodge here and had the highest waterfall in the Harz created in 1862.To this end, he had the Kleine Romke, which flows up in the mountains, diverted and the water plunged down the 64 metre high cliff edge. At the same time, he declared Romkerhall his domain. The historic hunting lodge is the centre of the newly proclaimed kingdom of Romkerhall in 1988. It looks directly onto the waterfall and is now a romantic hotel with a restaurant. King George V was married to Marie, a princess of Saxe-Altenburg, who went into exile in Austria in 1867. When the Kingdom of Romkerhall was proclaimed the smallest kingdom in the world in 1988, the link to Saxony was re-established by finding a worthy head of state in Princess Erina of Saxony, Duchess of Saxony, the wife of Prince Thimos - the grandson of the last Saxon King Friedrich August III - in keeping with tradition.
The Kingdom of Romkerhall mints its own coins and, in keeping with the kingdom's tradition, barons can be appointed by Her Majesty and deserving personalities can be knighted. Suppliers can also be awarded the title ‘Purveyor to the Court’. Princess Erina of Saxony (born 23 July 1921, died 16 February 2010) was the Queen of the Kingdom of Romkerhall from 1988 until her death.
Since 2010, Susanne Bauer from Nuremberg has been managing the state business and the hotel and restaurant there as Princess Susanne.
Micronational summit
