Damian Fortuna is a micronationalist, the President of Regne de Sant Andreu, and the incumbent Interim President of the World Micronational Chess Federation (WMCF). They are the party president of the left-wing Fortuna Group, and the observing delegate of the WMCF to the Intermicronational Court.
Establishing the World Micronational Chess Federation
On 27 October 2023, Fortuna released the operational charter of the Federation, followed by Ordnance 001, declaring the 2023 Micronational World Chess Championship and disputing the position of Rigas Papadopoulos as incumbent micronational world chess champion[1]. Fortuna describes themselves as the "interim President" of the Federation, and was not elected to the position despite the charter requiring an election.
Activities in Regne de Sant Andreu
November 2023 presidential election
Fortuna joined Regne de Sant Andreu as a citizen at the beginning of November 2023. Fortuna established the Fortuna Group, a left-wing political party, in the nation on 1 November 2023. They were approved for political party registration the following day. In the general election on 3 November, they were elected president and received a one vote majority in parliament[2]. In a statement, Fortuna thanked their voters and said they "look forward to starting the work of running this nation"[3].
The government of Regne de Sant Andreu claimed that multiple thousands of voters cast ballots in the election, but it is not clear who these voters are or whether they exist. Under the law of Regne de Sant Andreu, the position of president is that of a legislative presiding officer in the Sant Andreu parliament[4].
