The Dolish Realm (Dolish: Dolieren Reich), commonly just Doland, is a self-declared sovereign state often known as a micronation by external observers. The nation was founded on 1 July 2023, originally known as the Republic of Doland.
The nation operates under a unitary semi-presidential republic, with a constitution outlining the powers of the different branches of government. The unicameral parliament serves as the legislature, the president as head of state and prime minister as head of government.
History
Doland was founded on 1 July 2023 as the Republic of Doland. The constitution was written and ratified on the same day, with the nation renaming to the Dolish Realm.
On 2 July 2023, Dolish was adopted as the official language and's development was started.
Government and Politics
Doland has a dual-executive system with an executive president and an executive prime minister. The government systems was established by the Constitution of Doland which was adopted on 1 July 2023.
Presidency
The President of Doland serves as the nation's executive head of state. They appoint the prime minister and other members of the council of ministers. They have the ability to pass executive decrees, usually on the advice of the government, that have the same legal force as acts of parliament. The president also has the ability to assent to or veto bills passed by parliament as well as serving as Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces.
The president is appointed by direct election for terms of seven years, which are renewable.
The current president is Lucas Knightley.
Prime Ministry
The Prime Minister of Doland serves as the nation's head of government. They chair the council of ministers, act as an advisor to the president and is also a member of parliament.
The prime minister nominates all other cabinet ministers for office and is appointed to office by the president. Constitutionally, they serve at the president's pleasure but in practice they remain in office as long as they can command the confidence of parliament or until their party loses a general election.
The prime minister is usually the person who can command the most confidence in parliament, usually the leader of the largest party in parliament after a general election.
Parliament
Parliament is the unicameral legislative body of Doland. It sits for terms of five years. Members are elected to represent single member constituencies by the first past the post system. Parliamentary sessions last one year and parliament is presided over by the Speaker of Parliament.
According to the constitution, the government is appointed from parliament.
Geography
While not located on the island, Doland officially claims the island of Aldabra and aims to establish a settlement on the island as well as preserving the population of reptiles on the island.
In the meantime, before this happens, the nation claims the land their citizens stand upon and the sky above their heads.
Culture
Doland's culture is loosely based on semi-recent historical European culture. Currently, the major feature of Dolish culture is the Dolish Language. Dolish is a conlang being developed by the Dolish government that is piggybacking off of the German language. Dolish serves as the official language of Doland, with English serving as a recognised national language.
