Connemara, officially the Connemara Republic, was a self-declared sovereign state and former Roscami province that was located in the west of the island of Ireland in County Galway, Connacht. The Connemara Republic declared independence on 16 January 2023 in response to the failed coup in Roscamistan and the subsequent Roscami Civil War. The republic reintegrated into Roscamistan after a second coup brought back Thomas Jacobs.
The Connemara Republic shared close ties with the Kingdom of Fontasia.
History
For the history of Connemara before the establishment of the Province go to Connemara [1]
Roscami Rule (2021-16 January 2023)
The area of Connemara was under the control of the Republic of Roscamistan as the Province of Connemara. It was Roscamistan's largest province and its leading center of culture. The Province in 2022 and 2023 was under the control of the Roscami Ergatist Front, lead by Governor Conor Newman.
Castillomale Republic (14 January 2023-16 January 2023)
After the announcement of civil war in Roscamistan by government official Jan Kotonski of Roscamistan, the Province of Connemara would unofficially secede from the Republic of Roscamistan as the "Castillomale Republic," named after former Peruvian President Pedro Castillo, who self-couped himself and failed, and who also was a popular intermicronational meme at the time.
Independence (16 January 2023)
After the resounding failure of the 2023 Roscamistan Coup d'Etat, that lead to President Thomas Jacobs resigning from government and the creation of a democratic government, the Province of Connemara officially declared independence, dissolving the unofficial Castillomale Republic. The new government of Roscamistan immediately denounced and denied the declaration of independence, however the Connemara Republic would gain diplomatic recognition from the Roscami Government-in-Exile, the Kingdom of Fontasia and the People's Republic of South Galway in the hours following. The Connemara Republic, upon establishment was put into an autocratic provisional government, though it did not control any of its claimed territory.
Economy
The economy was made up of agriculture and traditional craft, and later more technological things. The biggest source of income was tourism, as the region is a part of the Gaeltachts, which are the last regions that still speak Irish day to day in the world.
Government and politics
The Connemara Republic was lead by the President of Connemara, a de facto dictator that had absolute control over the nation and its affairs. The only President was Conor Newman.
Culture
Connemara is considered a vibrant region, during Roscami rule it was placed as the Roscamistan capital of Culture by Adam Flannery on 6 November 2021. The root of culture in Connemara is the Irish language, and ancient culture.
Foreign relations
The Connemara Republic had controversial diplomatic relations with other micronations, with varying amounts of formalized recognition abroad due to its disputed status as independent from Roscamistan. Nonetheless, the Connemara Republic was a young and short-lived Galway Sector micronation.
