Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces is a position and set of duties and powers granted to the President of Doland in their capacity as head of state. It gives the president supreme authority over the Armed Forces of Doland.
Duties and Functions
In their capacity as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces the President exercises the following powers, duties and functions on the advice of the Council of Ministers:
- Direct, Control and Govern the Armed Forces
- Declare War, Make Peace or Institute Hostilities
- Deploy and Use the Armed Forces Overseas
- Deploy and Use the Armed Forces Internally to Maintain Peace and Order in Support of Government Authorities
- Order Warships in Times of National Necessity
- Commission All Military Officers
- Regulate Trade with Hostiles
- Powers in the Event of a 'Grave National Emergency'
Military Appointments
As commander-in-chief the president makes a large number of military appointments. They are first and foremost bound to making appointments at the two-star general level and above - appointing senior military commanders such as the Chief of the Defence Staff. The names of the officers appointed to these and other posts in the armed forces are regularly published by the Ministry of Defence.
The Realm Minister of Defence or Prime Minister may help decide on these appointments.
