The 2023 Alrodnia legislative election was an election in the Republic of Alrodnia for the 5 seats of the Alrodnia Senate. The election took place on October 31, 2023.
This election was contested by 2 large coalitions in Alrodnia: the United Islamic Coalition (KIBA) and the Social-Democratic Coalition (KSDA). The two coalitions are fiercely competitive. Especially because of the political crisis, this election will determine Alrodnia's policies for at least the next year.
Electoral system
The election system in Alrodnia is First-past-the-post voting that if the party/coalition makes a majority of people vote in one state, Thus, they would get all the seats in that state, and in Alrodnia, each state would get one seat.
Elections in Alrodnia are regulated in the 2022 Alrodnia Constitution, specifically Article 8, Clause 1-5, which said;
(1) General Elections are held at least once a year
(2) The President is elected by the people
(3) The Prime Minister is elected by a senate elected by the people
(4) The President's term of office is 1 year (after which he can be re-elected)
(5) The prime minister's term of office is 1 year (after which he can be re-elected, but only once)
The constitution says that elections are held at least once a year, And the term of Prime Minister and President is one year too, in the condition that the Prime Minister can only run for re-election only once.

Because, they said, an obligation is the destruction of Reformation and Democracy, Social-Democrat coalition, Very against this program and criticizes this program, They said that the Syarif I.M government has done something useless. The people questioned the reasons why this program had to be implemented by the government.
Parliamentary-Government Crisis
Since 2022, The DPNB has been controlled by KIBA or United Islamic Coalition, and The government is controlled by the Social-Democrat coalition. They continued to dispute and create frictions in the Government and Parliament, which led to the Crisis that has occurred until now. This crisis must end, Because if the crisis continued, Then it will lead to a coup, or revolution, led by Parliament or the government, Social Democrat coalition said that Parliament and Government can Cooperate, But because KIBA makes frictions, This crisis happened.
Otherwise, KIBA said that the Social Democrat coalition makes frictions, which makes crises, Debates, and disputes continue on both sides, while Government and Parliament Relations worsened.
Russian-Ukraine war
Because of the Recognition withdrawal of the Donetsk People's Republic and Luhansk People's Republic in 2022, in Syarif I.M reign the debates happened in Alrodnia, Social-Democrat said that Alrodnia must be kind and neutral with every party in this Russia-Ukraine war, Including Russia, Ukraine and Donetsk People's Republic and Luhansk People's Republic, But KIBA said that Alrodnia must withdraw the recognition because Alrodnia must neutral, However, KIBA has been questioned for not appealing to Russia's and Ukraine's claims in the same way they did with Donetsk and Luhansk, they stated that Russia and Ukraine were members of the UN, and because Alrodnia recognized all members of the UN, they had to admit it, but Donetsk and Luhansk were not members of the UN and were not recognized by the majority of UN members.
Non-neutral media
In 2021, during the reign of Ars R, the media has a very big influence in conveying information. According to Ars R, the media should be the transmitter of the latest information that makes people aware of the condition of the country and its government. However, Syarif I.M. denied this. He considered that this was just an excuse to gain public support through the media. Syarif I.M himself claimed that Alrodnia's media were no longer neutral and partisan. According to him, this is what the public should be afraid of because it includes efforts to destroy democracy.
Media
Alrodnian News is hosting Election Night on October 31st on YouTube. They said that this could showcase Alrodnia's democracy to people at home and abroad.
Polling
In the opinion polls, initially, Syarif I.M was quite ahead, but around March, the opinion polls of Syarif I.M dropped rapidly. There were several months when Syarif I.M. was able to restore his electability, but after the campaign, there were almost no months where Syarif I.M. was ahead in the polls.
Experts estimate that this happened because of Syarif I.M.'s New Reformation program. And Ars R.'s opposition to the program put Ars R. ahead in the survey.

Aftermath
Controversies
After the election, Ars R. and his party sued KIBA to Alrodnia Law Council because they had found evidence and allegations of fraud and irregularities in the election, namely that even though KSDA and Ars R. were elected by the majority of the people, they did not get a majority of seats. Because of this irregularity, Ars R. Party demanded to change the system from First-past-the-post voting to Party-list proportional representation. This system is considered more democratic because it only allocates people's votes to parliamentary seats. So, if one candidate wins the popular vote, then they will also win a seat in parliament, therefore this system is considered more efficient.
The next day, the Law Council decided to annul the 2023 election results. The Law Council also decided that the Senate was required to hold a vote for 3 consecutive days among senate members to determine whether to hold a repeat election and change the electoral system from First-past-the-post voting to Party-list proportional representation.

After the voting
After voting in the senate, the Law Council agreed to accept the voting results, and for the next election, the system that will be used is Party-list proportional representation and the election will not be repeated, and the election results are accepted. After the decision, there was some resistance, especially from KIBA which rejected changes to the system. KSDA seemed to accept the decision, but was somewhat disappointed because there was no repetition of the election. However, overall, KSDA accepted the Law Council's decision.
