The Drammic Monetary Medium of Exchange (DMME), commonly known as the Royal dramme, (base symbol: Đ; code: DRM) is a currency created sometime between June and August of 2017 (exact date unknown) by the Princian Empire, a now defunct micronation, and was used throughout itself and its colonies. After a brief period as the shared currency of the Alliance of Micronational Crowns (during which the common name switched from Princian dramme to Royal dramme), it is now used by the Princian Commonwealth (the most recent of the Princian Empire's subsequent iterations) and after many revaluations it is currently pegged to the General Currency Unit at 1Đ = 7GCU. Since 6th April 2019, the DMME has been administered by the General Currency Commission of the Lordministry of Economics & Currency. Within the DMME there are: ten plenoes in a dramme (10₫ = 1Đ), twenty drammes in a score (20Đ = 1R̲) and five score in a legion (5R̲ = 1Ỻ).

Currency code

The DMME's currency code, DRM, is in place rather than PRD or PCD (as is convention to include the country's alpha-2 IMSO 1 or RIS 002 country-codes) due to its de jure status as a shared currency, despite de facto only being used by Princia since the dissolution of the Alliance of Micronational Crowns. As an example, if all eurozone countries except France unadopted the euro, its currency code would not change to FRE in line with France's ISO 3166 code, it would remain EUR.

Pleno

Variously spelled plenoe, pleno, plenoes or plenos with the early symbol Ᵽ and current symbol ₫. Originally set at 100 plenoes = 1 dramme, later changed to 12 plenos = 1 dramme, then changed to 1000 plenoes = 1 dramme and then changed again to 10 plenoes = 1 dramme, which is its current rate. The pleno is the successor of the p/cent and colonial forint.

Dramme

The dramme is the main unit of the DMME and its namesake. The dramme is made up of 10 plenoes, while 20 drammes make a score.

Score and rixpound

The score, officially known as the Drammic Score, is a superunit of the DMME worth 20 drammes or 200 plenoes, with the symbol R̲. The score is archaically and still in some places known as the rixpound, from which its symbol R̲ and slang name "rix" are derived. Some score banknotes printed in the outlying provinces of Stonne and the Soeds still bare the name rixpound due to these provinces' history as former colonies of Princia, which would have at the time used the Princian Colonial Rixpound (subdivided into 200 forint) before it was absorbed into the DMME upon the creation of the Confederation of Greater Princia and their subsequent integration as provinces.

Legion

The legion, officially known as the Drammic Legion, is a superunit of the DMME worth 5 score, 100 drammes or 1,000 plenoes, with the symbol Ỻ.

Former units

P/Cent

The p/cent was the original subdivision of the Princian dramme, 100 p/cents = 1 dramme, with the symbol p/c. The p/cent was replaced by the pleno.

Rixpound and forint

The Princian Colonial Rixpound (symbol: R̲; code: RIX), subdivided into 200 forint (symbol: ₰), was the currency used by Princia's former colonies: Atiscross (now the Soeds) and Stonne. Rixpounds have since been replaced by scores and forints by plenoes following the colonies' integration into the Confederation of Greater Princia as provinces and the absorption of the Princian Colonial Rixpound into the DMME. Despite all Princian currencies defaulting to administration by the Lordministry of Economics & Currency, the Princian Colonial Rixpound was, at the time of its existence, controlled and administered by the Princian Colonial Authority.

Florin

The florin was a subdivision of the now defunct Princian New dramme, at 6 florin = 1 dramme or 1 florin = 2 plenoes.

History

The Princian dramme was created sometime between June and August of 2017 with an exchange rate of £255.99 = 1Đ, pegged to the British Pound and subdivided into one hundred p/cents (100p/c).

After 1 year, the Princian dramme was discontinued and a new currency created - the Princian New dramme. It had an exchange rate of £250 = 1Đ, pegged to the British Pound and subdivided into six florin (6/) or twelve plenos (12Ᵽ).

After 2 years, the Alliance of Micronational Crowns was created by Greater Princia - and the old dramme was reinstated as the Royal dramme (subdivided into one thousand plenoes - 1000₫), to be a shared currency with an exchange rate of £5 = 1Đ, pegged to the Irish Pound (which proved more reliable than the British Pound). It was at this time that the colonial variant of the dramme, the Princian Colonial Rixpound (subdivided into 200 forint), merged with the Royal dramme - rixpounds becoming a standalone legacy unit and the forint becoming interchangeable with plenoes at parity. The exchange rate was later changed to £4.57 = 1Đ to match inflation.

The Alliance of Micronational Crowns became inactive and was abolished, this meant that the Royal dramme lost its status as a shared currency. After this event, the Royal dramme was reformed as the Drammic Monetary Medium of Exchange and the exchange rate pegged to the General Currency Unit at 13GCU = 1Đ.

After 7 months of inactivity, the DMME was once again reformed - this time it was re-pegged to the General Currency Unit at 0·822GCU = 1Đ and was now to be made up of only ten plenoes (10₫) but superdivided into scores (R̲) and legions (Ỻ). Colonial forints remained fully exchangeable with plenoes, but rixpounds also became exchangeable with the new scores as well as giving them their symbol R̲. Exchange rate later changed to 7GCU = 1Đ due to the revaluation of the General Currency Unit.

Usage

  • One dramme would be written as 0Ỻ 0R̲ 1Đ 0₫ (standard form) or 1Đ (simple form)
  • Two drammes & five plenoes would be written as 0Ỻ 0R̲ 2Đ 5₫ (standard form) or 2Đ 5₫ (simple form)
  • One score & five plenoes would be written as 0Ỻ 1R̲ 0Đ 5₫ (standard form) or 1R̲ 5₫ (simple form)
  • One pleno less than two legions would be written as 1Ỻ 4R̲ 19Đ 9₫ (standard and simple form)

In practice, standard form is rarely used in instances it is not required, with the use of simple form being by far the dominant.
