The Republic of Osteau, more commonly known as Osteau, is a micronation located in the United Kingdom. It is a unitary semi-presidential republic. It was established on 19 August 2022 by Violet Knight and her sister, Scarlett.
Osteau is a semi-presidential republic, with the President of Osteau serving as head of state and the Prime Minister of Osteau serving as head of government. The government has three branches, the executive, legislative and judicial.
The republic describes itself as a seccessionist micronation, however may exhibit some simulationist aspects in its development and functioning.
History
Foundation
Osteau was initially founded on 19 August 2022 by Violet Knight declaring independence and herself as President. Soon after she was joined by her sister Scarlett, who became the nation's Vice President.
Politics and Government
Osteau operates under a semi-presidential republic. The there branches of government are recognised as equal and separate, keeping checks and balances on one another.
Executive
The executive branch consists of the Presidency, Vice Presidency and Cabinet. As head of the executive, the President is responsible for appointing all ministers, including the Prime Minister who serves as head of government.
The President is elected by direct election and appoints the Vice President and Prime Minister. However the Prime Minister is typically the leader of the party with the most seats in the House of Assembly.
Legislative
The legislative branch of government is the national parliament, which is made up of the Senate and the House of Assembly.
Members of the Senate, known as Senators, are nominated by local politicians within the nation and are formally appointed by the President, Vice President and Prime Minister. Each of the three officials have a certain numbers of senators they are allowed to appoint.
Members of the House of Assembly, known as Members of Parliament, are elected by citizens of the nation. The Prime Minister and Cabinet Ministers are typically all members of the House of Assembly.
Judicial
The judicial branch is made up of the Supreme Court of Osteau, the highest court in the nation. The supreme court is chaired by the Chief Justice, appointed by the President on nomination from the Minister of Justice. As well as the Chief Justice, there are four other supreme court justices, who are approved for their office by the senate.
Defence
