The Republic of Austin Island is the confirmed replacement to the Kingdom of Austin Island. Starting 1 October 2020 at midnight, the Republic will be in effect, with the Kingdom being dissolved. The Republic will retain the currency and the time zone of the Kingdom; however, the legislature and head of state of Austin Island will change.

History

On August 2, 2020 the Austin Island monarch talked to financial advisers after the scandal and the financial advisers said you must make up a plan and quickly to combat the money shortage and the monarchy is on its last tilts. by august 29th, with the November flag referendum, the secretary of the interior said the earliest a status referendum can happen is 2023. in eight months the monarch blind-sighted failed to protect the common defense of Austin Island. by August 30t, because of the political teeter-totter and the fact that a referendum would happen little too late, the monarch called to abdicate and have no one take his place. The assembly of people passed a resolution as the political teeter-totter is still ongoing to dissolve the monarchy by October 1, and have elections for governor within 60 days of the dissolution. A compromise was made on August 29 and amended on august 30th. By September 1, a new constitution was drafted.

Government and politics

Austin Island is a gubernatorial republic with the framework of a presidential republic. There are three branches of government in Austin Island the executive branch, the legislative branch, and the judicial branch similar to the United States. The Head of the state is the governor of Austin Island who is elected to a three-year term and the lieutenant governor is also elected to a three-year term. nominees for governor are nominated by dice roll and they represent that party as their gubernatorial nominee. a candidate needs 50% of the vote or more to be elected governor of Austin Island if no one gets 50% of the vote then the top two nominees advance to a runoff election held three weeks later. the legislature or the unicameral national assembly is composed of 66 members unlike the governor there are no runoffs for the national assembly because 50 of the 66 are elected by plurality voting with the remainder elected by open list proportional representation. and they're elected days after the governor is elected to make enough time for a government to form. instead of a prime minister, the leader of the majority party is the speaker. the current governor of Austin island is Austin young who was sworn in on november,15th,2020
