The President of Zinland, sometimes the President of the Republic, is the executive head of state and head of government of the Republic of Zinland. The president leads the executive branch of government and is the highest Zinnish office. The office was created on 14 April 2023 and its role is outlined in the constitution.
History
The presidency is the oldest office in Zinland. It was established on 14 April 2023 with near absolute powers until the ratification of the constitution. Derek Adams took the presidency after it was established.
Role
The constitution outlines some roles and duties for the presidency including:

Appointment
The president of Zinland is appointed by direct election usually on a joint ticket with the vice president. The president serves for a term of five years which is indefinitely renewable.
By convention, parties in parliament submit their presidential candidate to parliament who submits a list of all candidates to the electoral commission prior to the election.
