The Parliament of Istria is the supreme representative body and the sole legislative authority of Istria. The Parliament of Istria is bicameral, composed by Chamber of Deputies and the Senate.
Atributions
According to the Istrian Constitution, the Parliament adopts constitutional laws, organic laws and ordinary laws.
Commissions
The 6 joint commissions are:
- The Joint Permanent Commission of the Chamber of Deputies and Senate for exerting parliamentary control over SSRI activity;
- The Joint Special Comission for control over the Department of National Security of the Presidential Administration's activity;
History
The Constitution from 1934 of the Istrian Kingdom presented the first form of the Bicameral Parliament for Istria. The following gouverning system, the empire, introduced the bicameral regional parliament, wich allowed the region to govern itself in regards to the constitution of the empire.
Between 2000 and 2005 the Communist Regime introduced the Great National Assembly, who was an advisory institution for the President.
