Policies & Factions
Traditionalist & Thatcherite Conservatives (Majority)
The majority faction in the party emphasises Norton's Anglican heritage, opposes any transfer of power away from Norton - either downwards to the provinces or upwards to the United Kingdom - and seeks to place greater emphasis on traditional family structures to repair what it sees as a broken society in Norton. It is a strong advocate of marriage - with a minority of this group opposing "alleged assaults" on both traditional family structures and fatherhood. Most oppose high levels of immigration and support the lowering of the current 24-week abortion limit. Other goals of the group are to reduce the role of the government in the economy and to this end, support cuts in direct taxation, the privatisation of nationalised industries and a reduction in the size and scope of the welfare state.
One-Nation Conservatives (Minority)
The minority adherents of One-Nation Conservatism believe in social cohesion and support social institutions that maintain harmony between different interest groups, classes, and different races & religions. These institutions have typically included the welfare state and provincial government.
