The National Assembly is the legislature of the Free Commonwealth of Zyva. It is democratically elected every 9 months, and consists of 9 assembly persons. The last election was on 23 May 2022 was during the Zepranan-Era of Zyva.
Powers
The National Assembly has the power to pass laws, overturn Presidential vetoes, vote for the Prime Minister that the Federal President proposes, and press charges of impeachment on both the President and Prime Minister
Citizens can also vote on pressing charges of impeachment of individual assembly persons if they believe they are not being properly represented by a popular vote referendum.
History
The National Assembly was officially created alongside the modern constitution of Zeprana on the 8th of May, 2022, and had it's first elected legislators elected on the 11-12 May 2022. The early assembly was marked with inefficiency and bureaucracy under Prime Minister (then called Chancellor) Bryce Smith when created several Assembly rules to allow his Minister ex-officio and proxy voting rights.
Following the Zepranan Civil Conflict, the National Assembly was forced to dissolve, which sparked an early election only 11 days after the previous election.
On 4 June 2022, Assembly Persons Thomas Jacobs and Andrew Perdomo resigned from their seats, sparking 2 by-elections, which resulted in a 1 seat gain by the ZFLEP, and 1 Independent winning a seat.
As of 23 May 2022, the current majority government is made up of a coalition between the ZFLEP-Ecologist Alliance and Worker's Party of Zeprana.
On 24 April 2023, the National Assembly of Zeprana was brought back within the Free Commonwealth of Zyva as the National Assembly of Zyva.
