Powers
The National Assembly has the power to pass laws, overturn Presidential vetoes, vote for the Prime Minister that the Federal President proposes, and press charges of impeachment on both the President and Prime Minister
Citizens can also vote on pressing charges of impeachment of individual assemblypersons if they believe they are not being properly represented by a popular vote referendum.
History
The National Assembly was officially created alongside the modern constitution of Zeprana on the 8th of May, 2022, and had it's first elected legislators elected on the 11-12 May 2022. The early assembly was marked with inefficiency and bureaucracy under Prime Minister (then called Chancellor) Bryce Smith when created several Assembly rules to allow his Minister ex-officio and proxy voting rights.
Following the Zepranan Civil Conflict, the National Assembly was forced to dissolve, which sparked an early election only 11 days after the previous election.
On 4 June 2022, Assemblypersons Thomas Jacobs and Andrew Perdomo resigned from their seats, sparking 2 by-elections, which resulted in a 1 seat gain by the ZFLEP, and 1 Independent winning a seat.
As of 23 May 2022, the current majority government is made up of a coalition between the ZFLEP-Ecologist Alliance and Worker's Party of Zeprana.
