The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is the department of the Government of Tanaau responsible for implementing the government's defence policy and is the headquarters of the Armed Forces of Tanaau.

The MOD's principle objectives are to defend the Kingdom of Tanaau and its interests as well as to strengthen peace and stability. The MOD also manages the day to day running of the armed forces and overseas defence procurement.

The MOD is overseen by the Secretary of State for Defence, sometimes known as the Defence Secretary.

History

The ministry of defence is one of the oldest government ministries in Tanaau. It was established on 17 November 2023.

Chief of the Defence Staff

The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) is the professional head of the Armed Forces of Tanaau and the most senior uniformed military advisor to the Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Defence.

The CDS is aided by the Vice Chief of the Defence Staff (VCDS) who deputises and is responsible for the day-to-day running of the armed services aspect of the MOD.

Both the CDS and VCDS are responsible to the MOD and Chiefs of Staff Committee.

Chiefs of Staff Committee

The Chiefs of Staff Committee is the highest governing body of the armed forces, and reports to the MOD. The body meets and discusses with the prime minister and defence secretary - advising them about military policy.
