Markus Johann Berg, Archduke of Falia (born October 23, 1982), was a conservative New European statesman and Army officer who served as Imperial Chancellor from August 2012 to February 2013.

Early years

Micronational life

Markus Berg's micronational life began in late June 2012. He and Emperor Wilhelm had been stationed together with the US Army on their current assignments. Some time in July 2012 Wilhelm began to talk about New Europe and micronationalism to Berg who became intrigued by the concept. Through more conversations Berg was considered a citizen of New Europe by early August. On August 26, 2012 Wilhelm appointed Berg as Chancellor due to the lack of a sufficient voting populace.

In September 2012, New Europe faced a second collapse, which completely overwhelmed Emperor Wilhelm. The monarch, though initially inclined to simply let it come to pass and rebuild upon his return, ultimately declined to allow it. He made a attempts to prevent collapse: he started an online project that invited foreign micronations to boast the population and increase independent activity, acted on behalf of those who had gone inactive and even went to find aid from users on the Microwikia, all of these attempts ultimately failed even if there was some initial success.

Berg had at first tried to rouse the emperor into simply acting without approval from other organs of the government. Wilhelm would have none of it, and did not discuss micronationalism for a few weeks following. However in that time he familiarized himself with the communites larger players and current trends.

The crisis by the end of September began to grind to a halt, when an empire wide message was sent out for a census recieving only a few verbal responces but an increase in population count. Wilhelm could not convince a legislature to properly form. Berg then offered to do anything it took to prevent further deterioration of New Europe and establish a perminant, active, population and put the nation on good terms with its older allies. He then introduced Wilhelm to Vincent Garrison, also serving with them, who was enthusiastic about micronationalism. After a meeting between the three on October 1, 2012 Garrison was apointed Foreign Ministerand Wilhelm endorsed Berg's projects.
