The Representative of Vishwamitra to Canada (Hindi: कनाडा में विश्वामित्र के प्रतिनिधि‎, French: Représentant de Vishwamitra au Canada), formerly known as the Ambassador of Vishwamitra to Canada is the official representative of the Rashtradhyaksh and the government of Vishwamitra in Canada and the head of the representative office in Canada. The position is currently held by Field Marshal John Caravaggio III since 12 August 2024.

The representative and chief of mission is a member of the diplomatic corps of Vishwamitra. Vishwamitra unilaterally recognized Canada by a presidential decree on 1 January 2017, however, since the recognition is not currently reciprocated, the position is - at present - unaccredited, and serves a primarily ceremonial role. The duties of the representative includes representing the interests of the Rashtradhyaksh and the government of Vishwamitra in Canada and catering the interests of the non-residential (overseas) citizens of Vishwamitra residing in Canada or are of Canadian origin.

The position was first created on 23 December 2020 with the appointment of William Cooper as the ambassador to Canada, later redesignated as honorary ambassador in May 2023. The position of the representative was created on 12 August 2024.

The representative is currently assisted by a consul-general. The consulate-general in Newfoundland and Labrador is headed by Mick Griffin since 30 October 2024.

History

Flag of Canada

The position of the ambassador was first created on 23 December 2020 along with the creation of a full-fledged mission. The first ambassador was William Cooper who served in office until his resignation amidst the India-Canada diplomatic crisis on 21 September 2023 which was accepted on 23 September 2023.

In a cabinet decision, the regular diplomatic missions accredited to macronations which are unilaterally recognized by Vishwamitra were reorganized to honorary status on 8 May 2023. Thereupon, the ambassador was re-designated as honorary ambassador. Cooper continued to serve as honorary ambassador in Canada until his resignation. He was replaced by Chief of Army Staff General John Caravaggio III on 23 September 2023.

On 28 February 2024, the Ministry of External Affairs announced the dissolution of all honorary missions, thereby discharging all honorary diplomats from their office. The representative office in Canada was re-established on 12 August 2024 and John Caravaggio III was re-appointed as the head of the mission for the second time.
