The Consul-General and Chief of Mission of Vishwamitra in California (Hindi: कैलिफोर्निया में विश्वामित्र के महावाणिज्यदूत तथा मिशन प्रमुख) is the official representative of the Rashtradhyaksh and the government of Vishwamitra in the state of California in the United States and the head of the consulate-general office in California. The position is currently vacant since 17 August 2024.
The consul-general and chief of mission is a member of the consular corps of Vishwamitra. Vishwamitra unilaterally recognized the United States by a presidential decree on 1 January 2017, however, since the recognition is not currently reciprocated, the position is - at present - unaccredited, and serves a primarily ceremonial role. The duties of the representative includes representing the interests of the Rashtradhyaksh and the government of Vishwamitra in California and catering the interests of the non-residential (overseas) citizens of Vishwamitra residing in California. The consul-general reports to the Representative to the United States and serves on their behalf in California.
The position was first created on 11 January 2021 with the appointment of Matthew Xia as the inaugural consul-general. He was replaced by Ezri Ambriz on 26 December 2021 who remained in office until being replaced by Sean Villevoiche in June 2023. The position was re-created on 12 August 2024.
History
The position of the consul-general was first created on 11 January 2021 along with the creation of a consulate-general in California. The first consul-general was Matthew Xia who served in office until being replaced on 26 December 2021. He was replaced by Ezri Ambriz, who also served as Non-Resident Ambassador to Mexico.
In a cabinet decision, the regular diplomatic and consular missions accredited to macronations which are unilaterally recognized by Vishwamitra were reorganized to honorary status on 8 May 2023. Ambriz continued to serve as Honorary Consul in California. On 29 June 2023, Sean Villevoiche was appointed to succeed Ambriz and remained in office until the dissolution of all honorary missions on 28 February 2024.
The consulate-general office in California was re-established on 12 August 2024 and Villevoiche was re-appointed as the head of the mission for the second time.
