The Kingdom of Tinakula, alternatively known as the Second Kingdom of Tinakula or just Tinakula, is a self-declared sovereign state. It is known as a micronation by external observers. It is the successor state to the Republic of Tinakula and was founded after Tinakula regained its independence from the United Communes.
Tinakula is currently under an absolute, but benevolent, monarchy. Tinakula has previously been a constitutional monarchy and a republic, on top of being under a limited democratic government in the United Communes.
History
Tinakula was first established in 2020 by Afrasiyab Jamshaid as a democratic state and a quasi-republic. Jamshaid served as Prime Executive of Tinakula until the rise of the first monarchy. The government consisted of the Prime and Vice Executives and other cabinet ministers.
Upon the creation of the first monarchy, the House of Wellmoore was selected to rule and installed as the royal family with Luke I of Wellmoore becoming Shahansha (King of Kings). The monarchy was ceremonial and primarily acted to break political deadlock and resolve internal conflict in an unbiased and non-political manner. Under the monarchy, the prime executive continued to oversee the government but was more prime-ministerial than presidential as it had been before.
After a few months, the first monarchy was dissolved and later Afrasiyab left micronationalism. Not wanting to abandon Tinakula, former monarch Luke I partnered the Kingdom of Wellmoore with another nation to look after Tinakulan affairs and establish co-rule styled somewhat after the system in Andorra - thus starting the Republic of Tinakula and the co-presidential system of government of the republic. The republic thrived for a while but later fell inactive. To prevent the collapse of Tinakula, the republic was dissolved and the state was annexed as an autonomous commune of the United Communes.
Under the United Communes, Luke I was re-appointed the leader of Tinakula - which had, at this time, been named the Tinakulan Territories. Under the UC, the government was somewhat democratic - with the leader being appointed by the UC government but officials under him being mostly elected, such as island governors who had direct access to the leader of Tinakula. Under the United Communes, Tinakula was a significantly influential commune due to the relations between the UC government and Luke I. However, the United Communes soon became inactive.
On 15 June 2024, the members of the privy council of the United Communes (including Luke I and other commune leaders) met to discuss the future of the United Communes. It was decided at this meeting a number of the communes, including Tinakula, would declare independence and form their own governments away from the United Communes but while working together to build themselves back up as independent states. This lead to the temporary creation of the State of Tinakula - again lead by Luke I who bore the title "Head of State of Tinakula".
On the morning of 16 June 2024, it was declared by Luke that the monarchy was to be re-established and the House of Wellmoore was to be restored to the throne with Luke I again becoming the monarch - this time with the title of "King of Tinakula".
Government and Politics
Monarchy
The Monarchy of Tinakula is the supreme hereditary head of state and government of Tinakula as well as the commander-in-chief of the military. The monarch is the chief executive of Tinakula, as well as chief legislator and the head of the judicial system.
Initially the monarchy was constitutional, acting in a ceremonial capacity and making impartial decisions to break political deadlock. However, with the restoration of the monarchy in 2024 the power was increased. This was done in order to ensure political stability in Tinakula and to ensure a government that can create national activity after periods of inactivity.
Legislation
All legislation is issued by the monarch through royal decree. However, citizens have a right to suggest laws for the monarch to enact. This means that the monarch is the "legislator-in-chief" of the nation but citizens are able to suggest popularly supported legislative proposals.
The implementation of laws are also at the discretion of the monarch but is usually done on the advice of advisors and in accordance with precedence and previous legislation.
Judiciary
The judicial system is officially regulated by the monarch. Justice is enacted in the monarch's name, and courts are established on the monarch's warrant. Additionally judges are appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the monarch.
Military
The military forces of the kingdom are de facto still the Defence Force of Tinakula which was the military force under the republic. However, the current administration is seeking to overhaul and re-establish national armed forces so they can be restructured to better suit the current needs of the nation and to fit the new government system with the monarch as commander-in-chief instead of command being split by two co-heads of state.
Geography
Tinakula has lain claim to four islands since 2021. The current islands claimed are Tinakula Island, Nord Island, Mborokua, and Makalom. When Tinakula was under the United Communes the island had some level of autonomy however it is currently undecided the level of autonomy the islands will be entitled to.
Culture
Tinakulan culture has evolved over time and along with the forms of government.
English is the official language of the state, but Spanish is recognised as a national language. According to the most recent census Christianity is the largest religion in Tinakula, but there is also a notable atheist population.
The flag and coat of arms of Tinakula are the primary symbols of the state. The flag is the oldest symbol of the Tinakulan state, having been designed and adopted by Afrasiyab Jamshaid early on in national history - back in 2020. Additionally, the monarchy aims to act as a representation of the state.
