The Imperial crisis refers to a period of Kapresh history roughly spanning between February and September of 2021. The Imperial Crisis was defined by the gradual downfall of the Kapresh empire from its peak in late 2020, early 2021. The Imperial crisis would lead into the Midlothian War, which then caused an almost year long period of inactivity within Kapreburg. The start of the Imperial Crisis can be linked to the end of the Era of Good Feelings, although the two overlap in time.

Although Kapreburg was an empire in name ever since it first became a monarchy in May of 2019, it could have been viewed as just a simple Kingdom from the outside. In October 2020, the Dominion of Herbstland was founded, which fueled a patriotic and imperialist movement within Kapreburg. This sentiment was reaffirmed when Kapreburg gained the territory of Providence Rock during the Partition of the Aleunnic Empire. The era perhaps hit it's climax upon the formation of the Dominion of Tarcallia, and then continued into the formation of the Colony of North Fox Island.
Dan-Kapresh War
After the Colony of North Fox Island was formed in February 2021, the Dan Republic declared war on Kapreburg, claiming the island as their own, and that the Kapresh claim to it was an encroachment of their sovereignty. Eventually, a negotiation was worked out in which Kapresh sovereignty over the island was affirmed, but this was still a bother in Kapreburg, and slowed down progression.
North Fox Island and Tarcallian independence
After the Dan-Kapresh War, Jakob Vancapelle was instated as the Governor of North Fox Island. He declared the island an independent state, claiming Jackson I was using the island, among other possessions of the empire as his "playthings". Again, a compromise was reached where Vancapelle could serve in the National Assembly of Kapreburg in return for the island. The State of North Fox Island was dissolved on 4 April 2021. Four days later, the Governor-General of Tarcallia, Logan Medlin, would declare independence, sharing the sentiment of Vancapelle in his declaration of independence. This was accepted by Jackson I, as there was nothing he could really do about it, and supported the self-determination of his dominions.
