The Governor General of Kaleido (Tagalog: Tagapangasiwang Pangkalahatan ng Haring Bayang Kaleido) is, according to the Constitution of Kaleido, the chief executive of the government, and the head of state of the Kaleido (Kaleido). The Constitution [1] provide for election of the Governor General by direct, secret ballot, ending the indirect leadership elections conducted by the preceding government. The Governor General is directly elected to a five-month term with re-election. If a gubernatorial vacancy should occur, a successor must be elected within ten days, during which time presidential duties are to be performed by the President of the National Assembly or other senior cabinet members in the order of priority as determined by law. While in office, the chief executive lives in N210 (the "Room N210"), and is exempt from criminal liability (except for insurrection or treason).
On March 4, 2014, Japhet Palmejar became the second-term and current governor general.
Powers and duties of the Governor General
Chapter 3, Section 2 of the 2014 Constitution of Kaleido states the duties and the powers of the Governor General.
the Governor General is given the powers:
- fullness of executive powers
- as the leader of the executive branch of government
- to declare war
- to hold referenda regarding issues of national importance
- to issue executive orders
- to issue medals in honor of service for the nation
- to issue pardons
- to declare a state of emergency suspending all laws or enacting a state of martial law
The Governor General may refer important policy matters to a national referendum, declare war, conclude peace and other treaties, appoint senior public officials, and grant amnesty. In times of serious internal or external turmoil or threat, or economic or financial crises, the Governor General may assume emergency powers "for the maintenance of national security or public peace and order."
