His Imperial Majesty Frederick IV, is a Canadian micronationalist who was the last Holy Canadian Emperor. Frederick has been involved in various self-declared states, initially being the leader of the Republic of Orbovia until its dissolution in early 2021. He then founded the Holy Canadian Empire.

Early life and education

Frederick IV, birth name William, was born on October 10 1985, in Vancouver, British Columbia Canada. The oldest of two children, he is of British, Danish and German decent, tracing his lineage back to the German noble House of Hohenstaufen that existed during the Middle Ages. Frederick developed a keen interest in history and politics during high school, and later attended university where he majored in European history.

Micronationalism

Background

Frederick first discovered micronationalism by watching a Youtube documentary about the Republic of Molossia in late 2018. This began a period of in-depth research on the subject, with an inspired Frederick becoming fascinated by the possibility of establishing a small nation of his own. In January 2019, he partnered with a small group of his family and close friends to establish the Republic of Orbovia. This tiny republic existed for roughly 2 years until is disbanded due to several of it's members moving on to other pursuits. Finding a great source of inspiration in the ancient traditions of the Holy Roman Empire, Frederick set about establishing a similar imperial empire in contemporary North America.

Foundation of the Holy Canadian Empire

The independence of the Holy Canadian Empire was officially declared on April 8 2021 by an formal decree, upon the self-declared accession of Emperor Frederick to the Imperial Throne. The regnal name of Frederick IV was chosen in honor of Frederick I, Holy Roman Emperor, and as a means of carrying on his legacy after the successive rulers Frederick II and Frederick III. Joined by a small group of family and close personal friends, Frederick established the House of Orbovia and reached out to several other Canadian micronationalists inviting them to join the HRE. After establishing a dedicated core group of like-minded individuals, the new empire was slowly but steadily willed into existence.

Vested with almost unlimited power and authority as Holy Canadian Emperor, Frederick nevertheless set out to rule his empire as a dedicated elected monarch. Placing his trust in the Imperial Diet, William frequently sought the council of the empire's many nobles when it comes to matters of state. Frederick is known for being a firm believer in divine right and the concept that a vibrant society can only be maintained under the leadership of a strong aristocracy. Some of his early decrees included instituting a ban on communism, and signing several bills into law that ensured the protection of personal and private property.

Under Frederick's reign, the Holy Canadian Empire experienced rapid growth and development during its young existence. The emperor elevated over a dozen individuals to the peerage in his first 30 days on the Imperial Throne.
