Prince William Anton Jakob is a politician in the Imperial State of Econia and incumbent Minister of Defence and Prince of Lindborgen. He is a member of the Conservative Party and serves in Henry Larssons cabinet. William is a childhood friend of Octavian I, a connection that led to him being created Prince of Lindborgen, one of the nations provinces. He is also a Sergeant in the Imperial Army.

Micronational career

Due to being a close friend of Octavian I he was in October 2023 offered the position of Prince of Lindborgen. William accepted this offer. Shortly thereafter he joined the Conservative Party and campaigned for them in the general election. After the elecion during the government formations Henry Larsson, leader of the Liberal Party that held the position of kingmaker following the elections, decided to form a government with the Democratic-Conservative Coalition. Larsson then approached William and asked him to take up the position of Minister of Defence in his cabinet. William agreed with some doubts and quickly joined the Armed Forces as a private in the Imperial Army to gain eligibilty for the position. He was formally appointed by Octavian I on 8 November 2023. Currently he is the only cabinet minister that is not also a member of the Riksting.

Minister of Defence (2023-present)

As Minister of Defence William has worked to fulfill the Larsson Cabinets goal of a independent and unique Econian military tradition and to build up a working defensive structure for the young nation. Since William is a Conservative many of the practices introduced by him are heavily hierarchical and built around discipline and loyalty. In June 2024 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, the second highest non commissioned officer rank, for his services to the Armed Forces both as Minister and as a private. Currently he is the only cabinet minister that is not also a member of the Riksting and can therefore not take questions directly during Ministerial Questioning Sessions, instead he answers questions over Zoom.

Prince of Lindborgen

As Prince of Lindborgen William has been responsible for governing the province as there currently has not yet been elected any Governor to oversee the province. During his time of direct control over the province William has focused on enhancing local law enforcement and infrastructure, as well as used provicinal funds to invest in large companies in an attempt to grow the provinces economy. William has been critized during his tenure as Minister of Defence for mostly disregarding his princerly duties, instead spending time in the capital. This has been taken advantage of by the Opposition parties, both the Social Democrats and Greens wanting to prevent provincial princes from holding other public offices. William has called this proposal foolish but otherwise not responded to the critisism.

Military commands

Prince William has served in the Imperial Army since November 2023 when he joined to enable him to take up the position of Minister of Defence. He formally enlisted on 7 November 2023 upon Henry Larssons request. Early he was heavily envolved in this position taking part in training drills almost weekly. With time he shifted his focus to his ministerial work however. In June 2024 the Imperial Army Officers Commission recommended Octavian I to promote William to the non commissioned officer rank of sergeant. On 25 June 2024 he was formally promoted for "dedicated and extraordinary service" and "contributions to the structuring and establishment of the Armed Forces as Minister of Defence".
