The 2023 Riksting Election took place on 5 November 2023 in Econia to elect all 28 elected members of the First Riksting.
Election
The election was called by the Imperial Sovereign Octavian I on 1 November 2023, 2 days after the declaration of independence and on the same day as the Constitution was adopted. It was decided that the nation would be governed by Imperial Decree until the Riksting Opening Ceremony to be held on 8 November after the election if a government had been appointed at that time. 5 political parties participated in the election and all of them won seats in the Riksting. The election campaigning period started on 2 November and lasted until the voting started.
The election itself was a close race between the different parties that resulted in no one party gaining a majority of seats. The largest party became the centrist Democratic Party closely followed by the Liberal Party and the Green Party. The formation of a Government began on November 6th when all party leaders were invited to the Sovereign Residence for audiences with the Imperial Soveriegn. These meetings would be used by the Sovereign to determine which party could command a majority within the Riksting. There were 2 coalitions going into these meetings: The Democratic-Conservative Coaltion on the right holding 12 seats and the Socialist-Green Coalition on the left holding 10 seats. It quickly became apparent that the Liberal Party would decide which coalition that would form a government due to them not being a part of any coalition.
On November 7th after a few more meetings and Discord discussions the Liberal Party declared their interest in working togheter with the Democratic-Conservative Coaliton and later that day Octavian I appointed Liberal Party Secretary Henry Larsson as the first People's Minister and tasked him with forming a government with the Liberal, Democratic and Conservative parties before the 2023 Riksting Opening Ceremony held the next day. He presented his government during the ceremony the next day and announced the governments policy for the coming year.
