The Principality of Domanglia is a political entity founded and run by the British resident Dominic C., who calls himself the "Prince of Domanglia". The country is best described as a micronation, although it currently makes no explicit claim to sovereignty or exclusive territory. However, it does have ceremonial territorial claims to three properties in England, 10sqft of land in Glencoe, Scotland, a villa in Gran Canaria, Spain, six properties in Arizona, United States and a property in New Brunswick, Canada.

Established in 2011 by a 13-year old Dominic C. as a hobby, the Domanglian project went through many forms before becoming defunct in 2013. Dominic C. re-established it later that year before dissolving it again in early 2014. However, in 2018, taking a renewed interest in his quirky adolescent pastime, an adult Dominic C. restored Domanglia as a professional political project which acts as an idiosyncratic vehicle for his political interests and charitable activities.

Dominic C. represented Domanglia at three historic micronational events: the Seats of East Anglia Summit (the largest, if not the only, summit of micronations since the 2011 Intermicronational Summit), PoliNation: 2nd International Conference on Micronations (the largest gathering of micronationalists and micropatrologists of all time) and Draega Multinational (the largest gathering of micronational representatives since the said PoliNation conference).

History

Main article: History of Domanglia
On 24th May 2011 a 13-year old Dominic C. began working on creating a micronation he initially planned to be called Domanglica (or the Domanglican Empire). By 27th May he had finished creating his new micronation, the Domanglian Empire, initially consisting of only his childhood home (the region called "Domum") and let it loose into the world, as it made contact with other micronations via the internet and became a prominent player in the 2011 YouTube micronational community (or "YouTube Sector") from which also sprang the micronations Monovia (considered Domanglia's main rival and frenemy throughout its early history), Lurk, Flatland, Burkland, the Equaled States of Mons, Grunkia, Pashema (now itself a Domanglian territory), and New Jonesland. This community developed when YouTube had a more social, amateur environment (rather than its current commercial, business-based environment) and micronationalists would establish diplomatic relations with one another through YouTube's private messaging system, and make creative content for their micronations in the form of videos. Domanglia was no stranger to this, as Dominic C. made a large stream of creative videos promoting his micronation, many of which have since been lost. During this time, beginning with the annexation of the property Fairfield, the Domanglian Empire gradually expanded its claimed territory far beyond Domum.

While Domanglia never stopped contributing to YouTube, this community faded as its micronationalists discovered MicroWiki, and moved there in late 2011 (where they remained). Domanglia did so as the Federal Republic of Domanglia, which was one of many fundamental changes in the way the Domanglian state was structured. These can be seen below:

  • Domanglian Empire - 27th May - 3rd August 2011 (parliamentary era)
  • Domanglian Empire - 3rd August - 30th October 2011 (absolutist era)
  • Federal Republic of Domanglia - 31st October - 14th December 2011
  • Domanglian Federation - 14th December 2011 - 27th January 2012
  • Theodorist Kingdom of Domanglia - 27th - 29th January 2012 (brief coup government)
  • Domanglian Federation - 29th January - 14th February 2012 (restored)
  • Kingdom of Domanglia - 14th February - 6th October 2012 (incl. various internal changes in this era)
  • Over-Lorrokha Kingdom - 6th - 18th October 2012 (18th - 20th October was brief anarchy of the Very Brief War)
  • Over-Lorrokha Republic - 20th October - 21st November 2012
  • Princely Union of Saint Edward and Domanglia - 21st November - 23rd December 2012
  • Doshevika - 23rd December 2012 - 8th April 2013 (incl. various internal changes in this era)
  • Saint Edward and Zealand - 8th April - 9:59pm, 27th May 2013

After Domanglia relinquished its claim to statehood and all its remaining geographical territory at 10pm on 27th May 2013 (about two years since its foundation), it nevertheless survived in three more consecutive forms:

  • Las Adevaa - 10pm 27th May 2013 - later that year (culturo-ethical order)
  • Dazhódyy nation - 2013 - later that year (attempt at creating artificial ethnolinguistic group)
  • Commonwealth of Theledira - 15th November 2013 - 3rd February 2014 (micronation without territory)

Throughout all these various forms of the Domanglian project, except for the Theodorist Kingdom of Domanglia (a shortlived coup government against Dominic C.), Domanglia was by and large controlled by Dominic C. as his personal hobby. At various points in its early history Domanglia also surrendered its claimed sovereignty (for at this point in Domanglian history Domanglia did explicitly claim sovereign state status) or parts of its claimed sovereignty to various other micronations. For example, Domanglia was, in this order: an Austenasian protectorate, a Juclandian associated state, a constituent state of Dominic C.'s Ossavak Federation, a constituent state of the Saxon Empire, a member-state of the Holy Utopian Confederacy (a personal union), and a constituent state of the Confederation of Amager (itself a St.Charlian Permanent Territory). Early Domanglia was also a member-state of various intermicronational organisations and alliances, such as the Vanguard Powers, the United Micronational Council (the body, co-founded by Domanglia, which united the aforementioned YouTube Sector), the UCETL (which Dominic C. founded), the Antarctic Micronational Union, the Inter-Micronational Treaty Organisation, the Grand Unified Micronational, and the Amagerian Union (which Dominic C. also founded).

On 27th May 2013 Dominic C. dissolved Domanglia (then known as Saint Edward and Zealand) as a territorial micronation. On 3rd February 2014 Dominic C. dissolved Domanglia as a non-territorial micronation, and this was the last that was seen of the Domanglian project for the next few years. However, Dominic C. remained a micronationalist, as he became a high-ranking Austenasian and Natalian politician. It is through Dominic C., therefore, that a newly expansionist Empire of Austenasia swept in to fill the territorial void that Domanglia had left, annexing the former Domanglian territories of Domum/Busorov (initially partially on 17th June 2013 as the Territory Emperorsland, but then fully on 13 April 2014 as the Town Lichtenstein), Glencoe (on 13th April 2014), Monte Solana Catorce (on 17 July 2014 as the Crown Dependency Heischierland), Dekker and Homested (collectively as the Crown Dependency of Dekker, although it is debatable whether Dominic C.'s influence was responsible for this particular annexation). Dominic C. is known in Austenasian historiography as Lord Charles Clarke. In late 2016 Dominic C. retired from micronationalism altogether, and the Empire of Austenasia relinquished its claims to Lichtenstein (Domum) and Heischierland (Monte Solana Catorce) (although the Empire still claims Glencoe and the Crown Dependency of Dekker to this day).

About two years after his retirement, around 2am on 22nd September 2018, Dominic C. firstly declared the Domanglian concept to still be in existence, comprising the former Domanglian territories of Domum, Fairfield, Tantajenet and Glencoe, before, a minute or so later, reclaiming the Throne of Domanglia which he had previously possessed in Domanglia's early history. Thus he became the Prince of a new Domanglian principality, comprising the aforementioned territories. The new Domanglia would not make any explicit claim to sovereignty and would only make ceremonial territorial claims, and would aim to be a vessel for Prince Dominic's political and charitable interests. Later the same day Prince Dominic executed his first decree which established Glencoe as a nature reserve by Domanglian law.

  • On 23rd September 2018 the Principality of Domanglia annexed the former Domanglian Imperial territory of Monte Solana Catorce, a villa in the Canary Islands.
  • On 12th October 2018 Monovia, another former 2011 YouTube micronation, was revived, and Domanglia quickly got embroiled in a controversy over the founder of Pashema (another former 2011 YouTube micronation), Gavin Wetmore's, claim to the title Holy Utopian Emperor. Prince Dominic managed to manipulate the controversy in Domanglia's favour, by convincing "Emperor" Gavin to make a claim to Monovia rather than Domanglia (as he had hitherto been doing; Domanglia having been a former possession of the Holy Utopian Confederacy), which resulted in Prince Harry promising some of his land - his own residence, in fact - to Domanglia in return for Domanglian support against Gavin (which was subsequently never required, but according to Prince Dominic Domanglia will regardless keep Prince Harry to his word).
  • On 17th October 2018, Domanglia conquered its former Domanglian Imperial territory of South Pashema, along with the rest of Pashema, and annexed it all. Canadian volunteers were used for this operation.
  • On 14th October 2018 the Commonwealth of Havnesgade-Amager was established as a successor to the original Confederation of Amager. Dominic, Prince of Domanglia pushed for his brainchild the Amagerian Union to be revived, and it duly was. An "Amagerian Union Treaty" was drawn up by the Prince. Joseph, King of Havnesgade-Amager, signed his own personal copy of the Treaty rather than the Treaty proper, the Prince of Montania merely ratified the Treaty whereas a signature was required, and the Prince of Domanglia, not seeing anyone else's signatures on the Treaty proper, did not sign the Treaty at all as he waited for the others. In the ensuing confusion King Joseph declared the re-establishment of the Amagerian Union in an article for the Amasburg Times dated 18th October 2018. However, as the Treaty proper remained unsigned by any of the signatories the Prince of Domanglia did not recognise the re-establishment of the Amagerian Union nor his country's membership thereof.

However, on 17th November, a month later, the situation was rectified when the Prince of Domanglia, with the approval of the King of Amager, issued an Order in Council retroactively recognising the publication of King Joseph's article as the official re-establishment of the Amagerian Union and the beginning of his country's renewed membership in the Union.

Geography

A satellite image of where the Domanglian territory of Glencoe is situated.
The definition of Domanglian territory has always shifted throughout the years - in some eras Domanglia was without territory at all, in others Domanglia had territorial claims as bombastic as Pluto and Northeast Greenland. Since the foundation of the modern Principality of Domanglia in 2018, Domanglia's territorial claims have been quite reserved - three residential properties in England (called Domum, Fairfield and Tantajenet respectively. Each of these was a region of the Domanglian Empire), Monte Solana Catorce (a holiday villa in Gran Canaria, Spain, which had been a territory of the Domanglian Empire), Pashema (a property in New Brunswick, Canada. South Pashema had been a territory of the Domanglian Empire), Phokland (a former independent micronation based in Arizona, USA), and 10sqft of land in Glencoe, Scotland (purchased by Dominic C. on 13th June 2012, and first incorporated into the Kingdom of Domanglia on 24th June of that year). As mentioned elsewhere in this article, this Glencoe territory, although still owned by Prince Dominic, has, due to the Prince's former Austenasian subjectship, been claimed by the Empire of Austenasia since 13th April 2014. However, the Principality of Domanglia does not currently claim sovereign state status, so it could be argued that all its "territorial claims", including that to Glencoe, are purely ceremonial and traditional. Therefore, it is unclear that this is a territorial dispute between the Principality and the Empire at all. The Prince of Domanglia, by his ownership of the Glencoe estate, continues to use the title Lord of Glencoe (which was recognised by the Austenasian government on 13th April 2014 in an Act of Parliament).

Due to the minuscule nature of Domanglia as it currently stands, while previous incarnations of the Domanglian micronation were subdivided into different administrative areas with their own, at least nominal, governments, the current Principality in most cases has not found the need so far to do the same, and Domum, Fairfield, Tantajanet, Glencoe, Monte Solana Catorce, and Pashema are administered by their respective property owners. However, Phokland, having formerly been an independent micronation as the "Principality of Phokland", has uniquely been granted a high degree of self-governance as a viceroyalty. It is governed primarily by a Viceroy and his First Minister. Phokland is also unique in that it is further divided into distinct regions, traditionally known in Phokland as "provinces". These are small areas of land in Arizona, many of them themselves with degrees of self-government. They are Emosia, Capitis, Greenlandia, Libertalia, Macadamia, and New Persia.

The Principality of Domanglia is presently an aristocratic monarchy (or perhaps due to Domanglia's non-sovereign nature it could be better described as an ethnarchy). The Domanglian monarchy is called the Princeship or Throne of Domanglia, and whomsoever holds the Throne of Domanglia is granted the style of Serene Highness and the title Prince of Domanglia if male and Princess of Domanglia if female (however, this style and these titles are also afforded to the prince or princess consort of the reigning monarch). The reigning Prince/Princess of Domanglia is equivalent with the German title/s Fürst/Fürstin. The current monarch of Domanglia is of course His Serene Highness, Dominic, Prince of Domanglia, Prince of Monovia, Destroyer of Amager, Lord of Glencoe.

The Principality is presently an undemocratic monarchy simply out of convenience, and there are plans to introduce greater democracy into the realm when a higher population allows for it. However, Domanglia is currently democratic in the sense that it currently lacks an heir to the Domanglian Throne (a Hereditary Prince/Princess of Domanglia), meaning that were the monarch's reign to end in the current situation the Crown Council (see below) (or, should the Council be dissolved, the entire adult Domanglian populace) would be expected to elect a new monarch, making Domanglia presently an elective monarchy. Domanglia was a monarchist nation from the outset in the early Domanglian Empire days, and Prince Dominic plans to eventually use Domanglia to promote democratic constitutional monarchy, such as that of his native United Kingdom.

After the Class Decree and the Ennoblement Decree, the Principality of Domanglia has been governed by a Crown Council chaired by the Prince of Domanglia and also including his Ministers of the Crown (either princes/princesses or peers of the realm). In the Crown Council the Ministers of the Crown advise the Monarch and through him (the "Prince-in-Council") produce executive, binding Orders in Council. This is how the realm is typically governed; however, it is still legally possible for the Prince to issue decrees alone without the Council's advice (for example, the Pashema Annexation Decree 2018).

The previous monarchs of Domanglia were as follows. An asterisk indicates that they were Dominic C. (in different reigns with different regnal names). Each monarch had varying levels of power.

1. Emperor Dominic* - 24th/27th May - 30th October 2011
2. King Ciprian - 14th December 2011 - 29th January 2012
3. King Declan - 29th January - 14th February 2012
4. King Dominic (later reigning as King Urokah)* - 14th February - 9th October 2012
5. King Oshav - 9th - 18th October 2012
6. Prince Darkomere - 21st November - 12th December 2012
7. Prince Urokah* - 12th December 2012
8. Prince Vladimir I - 12th - 23rd December 2012
9. Prince Vladimir II* - 23rd December 2012 - 27th May 2013
10. Prince Dominic* - 22nd September 2018 - present

Altogether, Domanglia has had ten monarchs; half of them have been Dominic C., one of them has been an emperor, four have been kings, and five have been princes. The Emperor used the style "Imperial Majesty", the Kings typically used the style "Royal Majesty", the early Princes used the style "Highness", and Dominic C., in his reign as Prince Vladimir II, invented the style "Magnificence" for himself.

Law

The Domanglian constitution is uncodified, and much of it is based on convention. For example, the adoption of the Domanglian tricolour by the post-2018 restored Domanglia was never enacted by any law. However, Dominic C., the founder and Prince of Domanglia, has signed various written decrees into law which have greatly shaped the Principality, listed below:

22.09.18 - Declaration that "Domanglia" as a concept exists - A few minutes prior to the re-establishment of the Domanglian realm, Dominic C. wrote a declaration that the concept of Domanglia still existed, and defined it as comprising the former Domanglian regions of Domum, Fairfield, Tantajenet, and Glencoe. He also declared that its residents and himself were "Domanglian". This was important to do in anticipation of the founding of the new Principality as the concept of Domanglia had gone through very many changes in the past, and needed to be strictly defined before the Domanglian realm was re-established.
22.09.18 - Establishment of the Principality of Domanglia - A few minutes later, Dominic C. signed a new document in which he "reclaimed" the Throne of Domanglia and established the bare basics of the new Domanglian realm: that it was called the Principality of Domanglia, that he was its Prince (and Lord of Glencoe), that its territory was Domum, Fairfield, Tantajenet and Glencoe, and that the residents of these places were his subjects. This was also the first use of the style "Serene Highness" in reference to the Domanglian monarch.
22.09.18 - Glencoe Decree 2018 - Much later on the same day, Prince Dominic made Glencoe a nature reserve by Domanglian law, forbidding it to be built upon. This was arguably his first decree as Prince in the true sense of the word.
23.09.18 - Monte Solana Catorce Decree 2018 - Reclaimed Monte Solana Catorce as Domanglian territory.
29.09.18 - Non-Residential Subjectship Decree 2018 - Made Eren Lewis and Joseph Kennedy (a former Domanglian citizen) subjects of the Principality of Domanglia (non-residential subjects).
29.09.18 - Class Decree 2018 - Executed later the same day. Set the constitutional groundwork for what would become the Domanglian royalty and nobility, the Domanglian Crown Council, the Counsellors of State, and the Chief Herald. Through this Decree Prince Dominic also reclaimed the title Prince of Monovia and gave himself the title Destroyer of Amager, in reference to the fact that he was the cause of Amagerian dissolution.
29.09.18 - Ennoblement Decree 2018 - After the Class Decree which established a framework for Domanglian nobility, the Ennoblement Decree created the new Principality's first nobles - the new subjects Joseph Kennedy (who was given the previously dormant title Baron of Domum) and Eren Lewis (who was given the new title Baron of Fairfield). Clarified that "Baron of Domum" would be the Principality's highest baronial title, with "Baron of Fairfield" second-highest.
3.10.18 - Comrade of the Principality of Domanglia Order in Council 2018 - Domanglia's first Order in Council, meaning Prince Dominic made it after consulting his Ministers of the Crown in the Crown Council. Established the honour "Comrade of the Principality of Domanglia" (CPD) and offered it to Harry Fitzpatrick, former monarch of Domanglia (as King Oshav), and, as the founder and ruler of Monovia, arguably Domanglia's oldest friend (or frenemy), who retrieved "March Imperial", Domanglia's second national anthem, which without his efforts perhaps would have been lost to history. Comrade Fitzpatrick accepted the honour that same day.
8.10.18 - Infant Circumcision Order in Council 2018 - Banned infant male and female circumcision in the Principality of Domanglia with a punishment of exile. Also granted subjectship to the former Domanglian governor and revolutionary John Gordon.
9.10.18 - Baron of Tantajenet Order in Council 2018 - Raised John Gordon to the peerage as Lord John Gordon, Baron of Tantajenet.
13.10.18 - Elective Monarchy Order in Council 2018 - Made the Principality an elective monarchy in the absence of an heir to the Domanglian Throne, the new Prince of Domanglia to be elected by the Crown Council or, failing that, the entire adult population of the Principality.
17.10.18 - Pashema Annexation Decree 2018 - A decree which had to be executed without the advice of half the Crown Council due to the urgency of the situation, although Minister of the Crown Lord Eren Lewis was able to voice his support before the decree was executed. Annexed the recently conquered Pashema into the Principality.
11.11.18 - Phokland Order in Council 2018 - Annexed Phokland as a self-governing viceroyalty into Domanglia. Granted Charles Ross the title of Prince and appointed him Viceroy of Phokland. Clarified the relationship between Phokland and Domanglia. Granted subjectship to all permanent residents of Phokland.
17.11.18 - Amagerian Union Order in Council 2018 - Retroactively recognised Domanglia's renewed membership in the Amagerian Union as beginning on 18th October 2018. Clarified that the Principality of Domanglia did not necessarily recognise its co-members of the Union as sovereign states.

Society

The Class Decree 2018 established the modern Domanglian class system, which is based on power rather than monetary wealth. According to the Class Decree, there are three Domanglian classes: royalty, nobility, and commoners. The Princely Family of Domanglia (the Prince of Domanglia and his immediate relatives, who have the title "Prince"/"Princess") as well as any appointed Princes/Princesses comprise the royalty, and the barons/baronesses, baronets/baronetesses, and knights comprise the nobility. The nobility is further subdivided into the greater/major nobility (also called the peerage or baronage), which is composed of the barons/baronesses, and below that the lesser/minor nobility, which is composed of the baronets/baronetesses and knights.

Each rank in the aristocracy, from Prince to knight, is entitled to different privileges and rights. The higher the rank, the greater the privilege:

Princes are eligible to be Counsellors of State, entitled to heraldic insignia, and entitled to be Ministers of the Crown or observers in the Crown Council.
Barons are entitled to be Ministers of the Crown, observers in the Crown Council, and entitled heraldic insignia.
Baronets are entitled to be observers in the Crown Council, and heraldic insignia.
Knights are entitled to heraldic insignia.

Prince Dominic, who established the class system, claims he did so not to enshrine snobbery, but to establish a meritocratic honours system.

Order of precedence

The following is the order of precedence in the Principality of Domanglia. Note that many of the ranks listed are currently vacant.

1. His Serene Highness The Prince of Domanglia (Dominic C.)
2. His Serene Highness The Prince Regent of Domanglia (vacant)
3. Her Serene Highness The Princess consort of Domanglia (vacant)
4. His Serene Highness The Prince Emeritus of Domanglia (vacant)
5. Her Serene Highness The Princess dowager of Domanglia (vacant)
6. His Serene Highness The Hereditary Prince of Domanglia (vacant)
7. Her Serene Highness The Hereditary Princess consort of Domanglia (vacant)
8. Other princes and princesses by blood
9. Other princesses by marriage
10. Princes/princesses by appointment (currently only Prince Charles of Phokland)
11. The Right Honourable The Baron of Domum (Lord Joseph Kennedy)
12. The Right Honourable The Baron of Fairfield (Lord Eren Lewis)
13. The Right Honourable The Baron of Tantajenet (Lord John Gordon)
14. The Right Honourable The Baron of Rosston (Lord Sean Griffith)
15. Other barons and baronesses
16. Baronets and baronetesses
17. Knights (currently only Sir James Ellis)
18. Commoners

Other honours

It is important to note that since the Comrade of the Principality of Domanglia Order in Council 2018, the Domanglian honours system has not solely been based on titles of nobility. This Order in Council established the honour "Comrade of the Principality of Domanglia" (CPD), to be bestowed on foreign friends of the Principality. The sole recipient thus far is Harry Fitzpatrick, CPD, former monarch of Domanglia (as King Oshav), and, as the founder and ruler of Monovia, arguably Domanglia's oldest friend (or frenemy), who retrieved "March Imperial", Domanglia's second national anthem, which without his efforts perhaps would have been lost to history. Comradeship of the Principality of Domanglia, being awarded only to non-subjects, is considered the lowest rank in the Domanglian honours system. Nevertheless Comrades are legally supposed to be afforded special treatment not due to other foreigners.

Culture

National symbols

The Domanglian tricolour being flown out a window of Monte Solana Catorce.
The flag of Domanglia is a tricolour of one white band below one red band below one black band. These three colours - the national colours of Domanglia - were first adopted on 3rd August 2011 with the new "Liberty Keys" symbolism of the newly absolutist Domanglian Empire (which included the old white/red/black "Liberty Keys Flag" and Liberty Keys coat of arms). Prior to this, Domanglian symbolism had been primarily blue and yellow. However, Dominic C. was inspired to adopt the new colour scheme (and possibly to adopt absolutism) by the Dictatorship of Dorzhabad, a micronation Dominic C. much admired (one of the first, if not the first, micronations Domanglia established "mutual recognition" and "diplomatic relations" with) and one of his inspirations in founding Domanglia. He was possibly also inspired with the colour change by the German Empire, from which the Dictatorship of Dorzhabad also drew inspiration. In any case, the Liberty Keys symbolism lasted until the establishment of the Federal Republic of Domanglia on 31st October 2011, when Dominic C. came up with new national symbols for the micronation. One of these was the modern Domanglian tricolour, which he came up with while travelling either to or from a Drama lesson at school. It is believed he was inspired by the flag of the German Empire (although perhaps Dorzhabad played a part, but this is pure speculation). Ever since then, except for the brief Theodorist Kingdom of Domanglia (which was a communist coup government against Dominic C.) which had its own Soviet-inspired flag, the Domanglian tricolour has remained the micronation's chief national symbol. For Christmas 2011, Dominic C. was given a physical (as opposed to virtual, the chief medium for micronational flags), sewn Domanglian tricolour flag (as well as a desk-sized flag featuring the Domanglian emblem; see paragraph below). Prior to this, the only physical copies of Domanglian flags had been printed on paper. After Domanglia's disestablishment in 2013/14, the Domanglian tricolour was reused by Dominic C. as the flag of the former Domanglian territory of Monte Solana Catorce (as the Austenasian Crown Dependency Heischierland, 17th July 2014 - 23rd September 2016).
A small flag on which appears the Domanglian coat of arms.

Another national symbol adopted with the transition into the Federal Republic of Domanglia on 31st October 2011 was the current Domanglian "coat of arms", if it can be loosely called that. It was created by a 13-year old Dominic C. who did not have the understanding of heraldry or ability with design skills which he would later have. As it obeys no heraldic rules perhaps it should properly be called a national emblem. The German symbolism which can be seen in Domanglian flags can also be seen in this emblem. It is unclear when it fell out of use - sometime in the Kingdom of Domanglia era perhaps. Then other, more professional, coats of arms were designed by Dominic C. and adopted, but when the Domanglian realm was re-established in 2018, Dominic C. opted to return to the old Federal coat of arms, as he wanted to stay authentic to his childhood project, and because he (as mentioned above) has a sewn flag with the Federal coat of arms on it. Prior to the adoption of this Federal emblem, there had been two consecutive Domanglian Imperial coats of arms before it.

Domanglia is currently without an official national anthem but has had many in the past. The first was Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, the second (to suit the newly absolutist Domanglian Empire, August - October 2011) was the first part of Paul Mottram's March Imperial, and the third was "Domanglia the Great" (a version of "Azərbaycan marşı" with Domanglocentric lyrics). After this Domanglian records are scatty, although it is believed an adaption of "Marche Henri IV" with Domanglian lyrics was another.

The flag of Phokland.

Domanglia is also currently without a national motto, though it has had various in the past.

Various regional/provincial/specialised Domanglian flags, coats of arms, anthems, etc. were also used in Domanglia's past. Currently, Phokland and its various regions have a variety of subnational flags and coats of arms.

Popular culture

The popular culture of the people resident in Domanglia is similar to the pop culture of Great Britain and the Western world in general.

Prominent subjects

While Prince Dominic has always in one capacity or another been the main creative and political force behind the Domanglian project (and this remains so today), there are other prominent Domanglians which warrant mentioning in this article.

Prince Charles

HSH Prince Charles is the governing Viceroy of Phokland. He originally co-founded Phokland with fellow Arizonan Brock Lang as a micronation called the People's Republic of Phokland on 13 December 2017. He served as Prime Minister of the People's Republic until 27 April 2018 when he reorganised the Republic into the Principality of Phokland, of which he was reigning Prince (Brock Lang thereafter became Prime Minister before being replaced by James Ellis in October 2018). On 11th November 2018 Domanglia annexed Phokland as a self-governing Viceroyalty. Prince Dominic appointed Charles, Viceroy of Phokland and simultaneously granted him the title of "Prince" so that he could retain his princely status even after the end of the Principality of Phokland. He also became a member of the Crown Council. Due to an absence of a Domanglian Princely Family, Prince Charles as an appointed prince is in rank second only to the Prince of Domanglia himself.

Lord Joseph Kennedy

The Rt Hon. Lord Joseph Kennedy, Baron of Domum is the highest-ranking peer in the Principality. He took his seat in the Crown Council on 29th September 2018 after having been granted Domanglian subjectship and noble status on the same day. He has a long relationship with Dominic C., who discovered him on MicroWikia in 2012. Since then they have worked closely in Amager, Natal and Austenasia together; while Dominic C. left Austenasia in 2016, Lord Kennedy remains Prime Minister of that micronation. Lord Kennedy was also a Domanglian politician in Domanglia's early years (under the Domanglian name "Sergosti Gadorav"); for example, he was a politician in Domanglia's "Over-Lorrokha" era, and was one of the Domanglian oligarchs, along with Dominic C. and others, who signed the document requesting the abdication of Prince Darkomere of Domanglia. His Domanglian background made him a firm choice to be offered Domanglian citizenship again when Domanglia was revived in 2018, and Prince Dominic granted him the Baronship of Domum, a prestigious title which had been dormant since Dominic C. held it in 2012 as the lord of the Barony of Domum (a dependent territory of Libertas (Monovia)). Indirectly the modern Baronship of Domum could be said to be a successor to the Austenasian Baronship of Lichtenstein as well (held by Dominic C. when Domum, called Lichtenstein, was an Austenasian Town). Due to its age and history the Baronship of Domum is the highest-ranking noble title in the realm, and this makes Lord Kennedy the third-highest ranking person in Domanglia. Lord Kennedy is a non-residential subject of Domanglia.

Lord Eren Lewis

The Rt Hon. Lord Eren Lewis, Baron of Fairfield is the second-highest ranking peer in the Principality. He was the first Domanglian Minister of the Crown, accepting his position on the Crown Council hours before Lord Kennedy did on 29th September 2018. Unlike Lord Kennedy and Lord Gordon, Lord Lewis had not been a Domanglian subject prior to his involvement in the modern Principality of Domanglia. However, Prince Dominic was well acquainted with Lord Lewis as, like Lord Kennedy, Lewis and Dominic had also worked side by side in the Empire of Austenasia, and Lewis continues to be a high-ranking Austenasian (presently Deputy Prime Minister). Within the Crown Council Lewis has thus far been vocal on the issue of psychedelic drugs. Lewis is a non-residential subject of Domanglia.

Lord John Gordon

The Rt Hon. Lord John Gordon, Baron of Tantajenet is the third-highest ranking peer in the Principality. He was a Domanglian politician in Domanglia's early days, having been the nominal Governor of Domanglia's Antarctic territory and the leader of the 27th January Movement, the only successful coup d'état against Dominic C. which ousted him from power (then he ruled Domanglia as Federal Chancellor) and turned the then-Domanglian Federation into the Theodorist Kingdom of Domanglia (27th - 29th January 2012). Gordon was one of the first, if not the first, revolutionaries to return to Dominic C.'s side and before long on 29th January the Domanglian Federation was restored. Lord Gordon is sometimes referred to in Domanglian historiography as "Akonrad Gordorf". Like Kennedy, as a former Domanglian Gordon was a prime choice for being granted subjectship to the modern Principality of Domanglia. He was granted this (non-residential) subjectship on 8th October 2018 and was granted the peerage "Baron of Tantajenet" the next day (when he also became part of the Crown Council).

Sir James Ellis

Sir James Ellis is the First Minister of the Viceroyalty of Phokland. Ellis became a subject of the Principality of Phokland in August 2018, in which he thereafter became Minister of Foreign Affairs. In September he was awarded the honour of "Knight Commander" by Prince Charles of Phokland for his help in resolving a Phoklandian diplomatic dispute. In October 2018 he was elected the third Prime Minister of Phokland. When Phokland was annexed by Domanglia in November 2018, it was requested by the Domanglian Government that his title be changed from Prime Minister to First Minister to reflect Phokland's loss of sovereignty. He is the leader of Domanglia's first post-reestablishment political party, the Phokland Labor Party.
