The Democratic Party of Ikerlàndia (Ikerlandian: Demokraat Paaty öt Ikerlandiya) is a political party in the Principality of Ikerlàndia that was founded on 1 May 2021 by Iker I of Ikerlàndia. The party endorses civil rights, equality before the law, direct democracy, and broad technological and social reform. Its youth wing is the Democratic Youth of Ikerlàndia and it is part of the GMO Democrats Party and the Democratic International.

History

Foundation

The Democratic Party was founded as the merger between two groups: the Democratic Alliance and the Ikerlandian Party. The Democratic Alliance was a large eco-capitalist party, originally created as a merger between different leftist groups in Ikerlàndia in 2019, including the Socialist Party, the Nationalist Party, and factions of the Republican Party. The Ikerlandian Party, for its part, was a faction of the Ikerlando-Irennelandian Party led by Ikersson Braddy that splintered from its main party in February 2020.

The first step in the formation of the Democratic Party was the joint party congress held between the Democratic Alliance and the Ikerlandian Party on 12 April 2021. The party was officially founded in a presentation held in Mittyzöegaad on 1 May 2021.

In the June 2021 parliamentary election, the Democrats won 8 seats in the 24-member Parliament, making them the largest party despite being a seat short of a majority.

Ideology

The Democratic Party is a self-described "pluralist, popular and nationalist" political party. Most of his ideological background comes from the Alliance of Democrats, which advocated direct democracy, eco-socialism and hard statism. Statism and environmentalism remain important aspects of the Democratic Party's ideological component, as it contrasts with the rank and file of its main opponent, the Social Democratic Party.

Party anthem

The anthem is titled Sayodaa Demokraat! ("Rise up Democrats!").

Sayodaa Demokraat! (Lyrics)
Ikerlandian lyrics:
Ikerlandiya paapee,
waa weel ween,
weet demokraatyë,
peer too ween.

Waada godd baabygoov,
yë alwaa too heel,
weet gaad graat paapee,
peer too heel.
Wee raag daa flagge,
taa oot woo wee weenny,
taa oot woo wee heelppy,
wect yoo weel bee soopoot.

Loog laag daa paaty yë loog laag Ikerlandiya!

Literal Translation:
People from Ikerlandia,
we will win,
with democracy,
but to win.

With a good government,
and always to help,
with our good people,
but to help.

We raise the flag!
The one who will be winning,
the one who will be helping,
which you will be supporting.

Long live this party and long live Ikerlàndia!

Ideology

The Ikerlandiya First Plan led to a significant shift in the Democrats' core ideology. The election of the progressive and reformist Iker Rodríguez as party leader represented a major shift in Demokraat's priorities, especially in the post-Ikerlàndia context. Substantial support for the party from native southerners allowed new party members to embrace Rodríguez's new social liberal vision for the party. The adoption of the New Ikerlandian Plan as the party's platform and the refounding of Demokraat made official what many Valtyrian politicians saw as an already evident change in the ideology of the socially and economically democratic party.

Platform

As laid out in the New Ikerlandian Plan, adopted in 2023, the Democrats' platform includes:

  • Nationalization of all companies in Ikerlàndia;
  • Promotion of a diverse and syncretic national identity;
  • Strengthen and strengthen ties with other micronations;
  • Strengthening the law and the justice system by prosecuting politicians accused of corruption;
  • Build ties with other micronations and macronations abroad by giving a more active role to the Foreign Division;
  • Promote population growth through the implementation of a comprehensive growth program;
  • Annexation of new territorial claims to increase the green areas of Ikerlàndia;
  • Strengthening of the National Police promoting its growth.

Electoral performance

Local elections

The party's size is even more advantageous in the local elections, where the mayors of the municipalities and sectors of Ikerlàndia are elected through a one-round system. Furthermore, the Democrats have 2 safe Mayor seats, that correspond to their geographic strongholds (Mittyzöegaad and Bai) and which are currently occupied by two highly notorious mayors, Thus, the party managed to fare strongly at all local elections to date, currently holding more than half of the Mayor seats in the country.
