The Confederation of Hoku, commonly referred to as Hoku, is an entity which claims to be an independent sovereign state, but is called a micronation from the perspective of external observers. Founded in Knoxville, Tennessee on 9 July 2024, it is a successor state to the Democratic Republic of Hoku, which dissolved after the Hokuian Congress voted in favor of a redraft of the micronation's constitution.

Hoku is officially a secularist state, modeling itself after the United States and the freedoms it grants through its constitution, namely, freedom of religion. That being said, Christianity is the most popular religion in Hoku, with 90% of its population practicing it.

Etymology

Hoku's name is derived from the Hawaiian word that means "star". It was thoughtfully chosen for its evocative and universal sound, symbolizing the peace and power of the nation, much like how a star shines brightly and radiates light and positivity.

History

Pre-European Colonization

Before European colonization, the area that is now Hoku was inhabited by various Native American tribes, primarily the Cherokee. The Cherokee were part of the larger Iroquoian language family and were known for their rich culture, complex social structures, and agricultural practices. They lived in villages, cultivated crops such as corn, beans, and squash, and engaged in hunting and fishing. The region's geography, with its rivers and fertile land, made it an attractive area for settlement. The Tennessee River and its tributaries provided essential resources for fishing and transportation, while the surrounding mountains offered protection and resources for hunting.

European Colonization

The establishment of Knoxville began with James White's Fort, built in 1786 as a defensive structure against potential Native American attacks. This fort served as a base for settlers moving into the region and marked the beginning of European colonization in the area. The arrival of European settlers led to the displacement of the Cherokee and other Native American tribes. As settlers moved into the area, they encroached on Native lands, leading to conflicts and treaties that often favored the settlers. This resulted in significant loss of territory for the Cherokee, culminating in their forced removal during the Trail of Tears in the 1830s.

United States Civil War and the Impact on Knoxville.

As tensions escalated in the lead-up to the Civil War, Knoxville's population was divided in its loyalties. Many residents were sympathetic to the Confederacy, while others supported the Union. This division created a volatile atmosphere in the city. In 1861, after the outbreak of the war, Confederate forces occupied Knoxville. The city remained under Confederate control for much of the early part of the war, serving as a base for operations in East Tennessee.The most significant military engagement in Knoxville occurred during the Battle of Fort Sanders on November 29, 1863. Union General Ambrose Burnside had taken command of the city and fortified it against Confederate attacks. The Confederate forces, led by General James Longstreet, attempted to besiege Knoxville in late November The siege lasted for several weeks, with Longstreet's troops surrounding the city. The Union forces, numbering around 5,000, were well-fortified and prepared for an assault. On November 29, the Confederates launched an attack on Fort Sanders, which was one of the key defensive positions held by Union troops. The assault on Fort Sanders was met with fierce resistance, and the Confederates suffered heavy casualties. The Union forces successfully defended the fort, leading to a decisive victory for Burnside. Following the failed assault, Longstreet withdrew his troops, and Knoxville remained under Union control for the remainder of the war.

Reconstruction

After the war, Knoxville underwent a period of reconstruction and recovery. The city faced challenges in rebuilding its economy and infrastructure, but it also experienced growth as a result of the influx of Northern investment and the establishment of new industries. The Radical Republicans, who sought to enforce civil rights for freedmen and ensure their political participation, gained influence in Knoxville. They pushed for policies that would protect the rights of African Americans and limit the power of former Confederates.The city saw the election of African American officials during Reconstruction, reflecting the newfound political power of Black citizens. This included positions in local government and the state legislature. The Freedmen's Bureau played a crucial role in establishing schools for African Americans in Knoxville. Education became a priority for the newly freed population, leading to the creation of several institutions aimed at providing literacy and vocational training.African Americans in Knoxville began to form their own communities, churches, and organizations. These institutions became vital for social support and cultural identity, fostering a sense of community among freedmen. The end of Reconstruction marked the beginning of the Jim Crow era, during which discriminatory laws were enacted to enforce racial segregation and disenfranchise Black voters. This had a lasting impact on the rights and opportunities available to African Americans in Knoxville.

Modern Era of Knoxville

After the Civil War, Knoxville emerged as a major wholesaling and manufacturing center. The city's economy flourished, driven by its strategic location and the arrival of the railroad in the mid-19th century, which facilitated trade and transportation. The economic prosperity of Knoxville began to stagnate in the 1920s as the manufacturing sector declined. The downtown area faced significant challenges, including urban decay and political strife, which hindered growth and development.A turning point for Knoxville came with the hosting of the 1982 World's Fair, which brought international attention and investment to the city. This event spurred revitalization initiatives that focused on urban development, infrastructure improvements, and the enhancement of public spaces, particularly in the downtown area.Knoxville is home to the flagship campus of the University of Tennessee, which has played a crucial role in the city's identity and economy. The university contributes significantly to research, education, and cultural activities, making Knoxville a center for higher education in the region. In recent years, Knoxville has positioned itself as a gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and a repository of Appalachian culture. The city has seen growth in tourism, technology, and healthcare sectors, with the Tennessee Valley Authority and various corporate headquarters contributing to its economic landscape. As of the 2020 census, Knoxville had a population of approximately 190,740, making it the largest city in East Tennessee. The city continues to evolve, attracting new residents and businesses while maintaining its historical significance and cultural heritage.

Pre-Hokuian Micronationalism

Before the Confederation of Hoku and before the Socialist Republic of Hoku there was the Kingdom of Monnunism. The Kingdom of Monnunism was a micronation that was a self described Socialist Kingdom based out of Knoxville, Tennessee. The Kingdom of Monnunism did not claim any official land but was more of an idea that wanted to spread into other micronations. It originally was a political party for the Kingdom of Huntia after President Tipton was scrolling on Tiktok and found a video advertising the

Huntian Survivalist Party. This was not Tiptons first official introduction to Micro-nationalism as he had watched a video discussing Republic of Molossia and the Principality of Sealand some time before. nevertheless this is what officially inspired him to create the Kingdom of Monnunism and his start of his Micro-nationalist career. He would later be quoted on saying "If I scrolled past that video I don't know where I would be right now."

Early Socialist Republic of Hoku

The early Socialist Republic of Hoku was Tipton's first real start into micro-nationalism, the country was reborn a new with a new ideology of Socialism and not the previous Socialist Monarchy. The Socialist Republic of Hoku soon would start to ally itself with other nations the most notable ones being Federal Dynasty of Gorthia, Kingdom of Huntia, and the Kingdom of Cristoria.at the time Supreme Leader Tipton would help Cammy king of the Kingdom of Huntia with making a discord server. This server would reach around 20-30 members but would eventually be nuked and deleted after backlash from the Un-professionalism of the server and supposed racist remarks being said. Most information from the Early Socialist Republic of Hoku has been lost to time. Eventually the server would be remade but not under Tipton but Cammy and some of his government officials. Tipton would end up going the server and posting a "offensive" joke getting him banned. After getting banned Tipton got a member from his government to join the server get mod unbanned Tipton invited him back give him admin and then nuke the server. Tipton would spam the server for almost 2 hours. After this Huntia would leave the community and take a break. Soon Cammy would return and tensions between Hoku and Huntia where very tense. But after enough time pasted around 2 months Cammy personally personal messaged Tipton and asked if they could restore diplomatic relations and as repayment Tipton made a new server which he owned and operated in Huntias name. Cammy would soon force Tipton to make him the official owner of the server saying if he didn't he would make a new discord. He soon would make a new discord server massaging around 20 members after Cammy promoted it on the former Huntian discord so Tipton would soon comply and give Cammy ownership of the server. afterwords Cammy would delete the discord that he made and keep the one that Tipton made. Shortly afterward, the Cristoro-Huntian Cold War would break out and Tipton would back the Cristorian Kingdom in the war. The Cristoro-Huntian Cold War would last from May 20, 2022 - August 27, 2022 resulting in a Cristorian victory after Cammy would accidentally leak his address on his Tiktok and get doxxed. He would retaliate with the help from another individual and even though the Kingdom of Cristoria nor Federal Dynasty of Gorthia dox or share his address they would still also get doxxed having both of there address leaked on TIktok and pictures of Czuck the Gorthan Dynasty's leader being leaked that they found from his mom's Facebook account. Huntia would soon leave the community following this and dissolving his Micronation. At the same time from War on Gorthalism would take place. At the time of the Anti-Gorthian War the Cristo-Huntian war was taking place and the Federal Dynasty of Gorthia was allied to Huntia at the time so they came to the defensive of Cammy. Gorth would fight along Huntia until the eventual Doxxing of him and Christopher . Around half way through the Cristoro-Huntian Cold War Syndicate Nations of Prosperity or SNOP a NATO like military alliance made June 8th of 2022.

Between ages of Hoku

The between ages of Hoku where between 27, August, 2022--28, January, 2023 they marked a in-between period of the start and the eventual collapse of the Socialist Republic of Hoku. This period marks the start of the Anti-Gorthian conflicts. After the Cristo-Huntian Cold war came to an end the former discord server of the Huntian Kingdom became a occupied puppet server with the ruler of it being undermined. No one really liked the puppet so they held a vote for either Tipton to run and own the discord server or the puppet huntian government. Tipton won the vote and thus owned and operated the server. Tipton would turn the Hutnian Puppet State discord into the Micro national Community a

discord server that represented peace, growth, and a safe hub for Micro nationalism as a whole. Hoku would go into a period of peace with Cristorian-Hoku relations at a all time high. Around this time Hoku became a official Anonymous Republic in the USR or Almendria. This decision to join the USR would be one of Tiptons worst mistakes he's ever made in Micro nationalism. The congress of Cristoria would soon be founded and Tipton would run for the congress elections under the Cristorian Communist Party. Soon this peace would come to an end with the seconded war on Gorthalism starting on the 21, January, 2023. The seconded war on Gorthalism started after a weekly Congressional meeting was held and the topic of nuking the Gorthian Federations discord server. The congress would debate the topic for around three hours before they came to a official decision that Christopher P would make a official nuke bot and nuke the Gorthian discord. Everyone in Congress would soon rejoin the voice chat and Tipton would @ Dylan Czuk discord account asking for mod to help around the server. Dylan Czuk would accept and give Tipton mod roles in the server. The current goal at the time was to wait for Dylan Czuk to go offline to go to sleep before nuking the server. As the congress was waiting for Dylan Czuk to get offline Tipton went into the "Bot" role and give it administrator powers he could but Dylan Czuk would check the Audit Logs after accidentally being @ed from a unknown individual this is where he would see Tiptons recent changes and confront him in the general chat. Tipton would defend that he was just changing up some roles and "cleaning up the server" but Czuk would see right through this lie and unmod him. At this point the Cristorian Congress was freaking out as they thought the plan was over but Congress member President Caiden of the Republic of Orlek who also had mod added the Nuke bot and decimated the server. This conflict would be named Operation Blazing Glory and would result in a Cristorian Victory. The Second War on Gorthalism would come to an end one the 28th of January with the Treaty of Jwanczuk being signed.

Almendrian Revolution (2023)

The Almendrian Revolution took place after the Third referendum to leave Almendria was completed with 40% wanting to stay in the USR (Union of Socialist Republics) and 60% wanting to leave making the referendum a lose as you needed 70% or more to leave the Union. Tipton thought it was most clear that Almendria rigged the election. He discussed his options with Tizian ^[1] and they were too either wait another 2 weeks for a referendum to be made and then another 2 weeks for voting, or stay with the union. Tipton chose a third option. Tipton would Nuke the Micronation Community Discord. It completely ruined the discord banning half the members and deleting all the channels. After this Tipton would vow that the Socialist Republic of Hoku was independent from the United Socialists Republics of Almendria. The Almendrian response would be quick, just a couple hours later Tizian would personal message Tipton on Discord furiously. He begged Tipton to surrender and that Hoku would still remain independent. Tipton accepted this proposal thus bringing an end to the Almendrian Revolution.

Hokuian Civil War

The Hokuian Civil War (2023) took place a couple months after the Almendrian Revolution, the Micronational Community was at the time very inactive and Tipton didn't see much of a reason to continue Hoku so Tipton officially declared Hoku as dissombuglated and collapsed the nation, Terry Mckeen III of Zeprana had at the time still had control of the discord server and owned it so he officially revived the nation and declared it re-established, Tipton would follow by publicly arguing with Mckeen as Tipton had been the one that founded the nation and thus didn't want the United Socialist Republics to make a living corpse of the nation, Mckeen would respond by taking away any and all admin privileges of Tipton before trying to start up a election for a new leader. Tipton would counter Mckeen by creating a new discord server (modern server that is still used) and after a few days past the server would remain mostly inactive and Almendria would focus its attention on other matters. The conflict had no official end but would be marked a Hokuian victory,

Socialist Republics Golden Age

This is what's considered the golden age of the Socialist Republic of Hoku. This was the founding of the Socialist Party of Hoku (Know the Democratic Socialist Party of Hoku ) and when Tiptons TikTok reached its peak with over 3000 followers. In this period the discord also was doing relatively good and was active. In this period Tipton took a greater devotion to Hoku with him writing a official constitution in this period and also reaching out to more micro nations. Gorthian and Crisotiran relations improved in this time as well with Hoku trying to have a good alliance with both of the nations. Tipton would try to get people to make more political parties for the Prime minster election which was scheduled to happen. But after 2 weeks of saying that the election was coming Tipton had to go offline for 2-3 days when it was scheduled to happen and soon it was canceled all together. Tipton would also in this time try to expand his influence into a know collapsed micronation called " Slyandria" Slyandria was a Kingdom run by the monarch Austin at this time. It was located in Great Britain. At this time Tipton would be giving some land in Slyandria for his help in one of there many civil wars the kingdom had. He would soon though run for there Prime Minster elections under the Slyandrian Communist and win. Under his rule as Prime Minster he would set up there discord server, set up a national guard, and a Congress. But soon the Slyandrian monarch Austin would coup the government with the help of another anti-communist referred to as "Terms" online. Terms has actually set up a conservative party in Hoku but after he tried to form a 'Anti-Tipton Action" movement he was banned and his party outlawed. Tipton obviously mad that he was coupe turned his land that Hoku owned into the Slyandrian Socialist Republic. He would then for the next week pressure Austin to reinstate the illegal coupe or he would call in Syndicate Nations of Prosperity and the Gorthian Pact^[2] to force him to. After this Austin would leave the community and the Socialist Republic of Slyandria would eventually collapse later becoming the New Democratic Republic of Slyandria which is still under the control of Hoku to this day.

Democratic Republic

On 1 November 2023, a decision to finally dissolve the Socialist Republic was made. For months prior, democratic socialism was becoming a popular ideology within Hoku, and after a diplomatic discussion with the leader of Gorthia, the Democratic Republic of Hoku was established. After its establishment, Hoku would enter a period of tranquility for a decent while. On December 25th 2023 Tipton and his family would officially for the last official time leave the at the time capital of Hoku of the Tiptonian Republic of Hoku. This was a very hard time for the nation and Hoku would go through many provincial capitals until officially on the 9 July 2024, it was decided that Hoku's constitution needed to be redrafted after a vote was held in the Hokuian Congress. This redraft of the constitution officially dissolved the Democratic Republic and established the Confederation. This also established a new capital of Tiprasa.

Modern History

The modern republic is stable. On October 11th-15th elections where held for provincial and for the prime minister. This was significant as this was the first time in over a year Hoku had stable and fair elections not under Almendria or any other force. Through Hoku today is a strong and independent Republic that is a example for other micronationalists.

Provinces And Territories

Early History of the Provinces

Going back into the Socialist Republic of Hoku in 2022 there where only 4 provinces originally. Vallejo, Lexington, Bluegrass and Rose Crest. They weren't Republics yet and just existed as the four basic provinces of Hoku. But around mid 2022 to early 2023 the Thompson Territory (now Tiptonia) was added into the Socialist Republic. Also around this same time Tipton made a new micronation called "Hiko" a Gorthian named country that played a part in the Sythian-Gorthian war. Gorthian would win this war Sythia would collapse and Hiko would join the Socialist Republics as well.

Reorganizing of the Provinces (2023)

Tipton realized that he had not updated the map of Hoku after the collapse of the Socialist Republic of Hoku the original map still displayed multiple flags with the Hammer and Sickle on them which did not represent the current goverment of the Republic so Tipton redrew the borders and combined some territories. This would last until July, 9th, 2024 when the Democratic Republic of Hoku was dissolved and refounded as the Confederation of Hoku.

Reorganization of Provincial Boundaries and Claims (2024)

On July, 14th, 2024 the Hokuian Congress worked together to draft up a Reorganization of Provincial Boundaries and Claims Act that Expanding Hokus territory to more accurately represent the modern nation, this was the biggest boundaries change in the history of the nation and the borders remain unchanged to this day.

Provincial Elections of 2024

On August, 12th, 2024 Congress of Hoku authorized the start of the official Prime Minster and Provincial Elections of 2024. These elections would officially let the public vote for who represents them for there province. The election would officially end on August 15th with provincial leaders and a prime minister all being successfully elected. The Province of Praxida would have the candidate of Maine of the Transhumanist Party win. The Province of Kandra would bea close vote but Luci of the Communist Party of Hoku would win.

The Province of Tiprasa would have Steven Collins win under the Bull Moose Party of Hoku. And the prime minister of Hoku would be elected as Wolutuh James under the Democratic Socialist Party that was endorsed by Tipton.

Government

Hoku is a confederation of independent states with a central government that is very limited in power. The government itself consists of an Executive Branch led by the President, a Legislative Branch led by Congress, and a Judicial Branch led by the High Court. The President is elected once every four years by citizens of the Provinces, and each vote is counted by Congress.

Early Government

The earliest recorded government of Hoku was a Socialist Republic but this changed on November First 2023 when President Tipton dissolved Socialist Republic of Hoku. After that it was founded as a Democratic Socialist Republic. This would change as on July, 9th, 2024 the Democratic Republic of Hoku was dissolved in favor of the Confederation of Hoku.The President of the Republic is President Tipton, the prime minister is Wolutuh James, and there is a working Congress.

Legislative Branch

The legislative branch also known as the Congress of the Democratic Republic of Hoku is designed to pass laws, draft the budget, and oversee government actions. Local self-governance shall be encouraged, allowing regions to manage their affairs.

Executive Branch

The Executive Branch deals with federal problems and deals. The Executive Branch must have a President, elected by the people, shall serve as the head of state and government, appointing a Cabinet of experts to manage executive functions and administer government departments.

Judicial Branch

The Judicial Branch is An independent judiciary, appointed through a transparent and merit-based process, shall interpret the constitution, protect individual rights, and ensure justice. It has the authority to review the constitutionality of laws and government actions. There hasn't been a need for a judicial system as of yet so it is currently not working.
