The Armed Forces of the Frondesian Federation, commonly the Armed Forces of Frondesia or the Frondesian Armed Forces, are the military forces of the Frondesian Federation. It consists of three branches - the army, navy and aerospace force.
Directed and controlled by the Security Council of Frondesia, the armed forces form part of the country's defence services.
History
The armed forces were officially established on the authorisation of President Oswald Hastings on 26 August 2023. However, there's an argument to be made that they were de facto established on 25 August 2023 due to a basis in the constitution allowing for armed forces to be established under the supreme command of the president.
Service Branches
Under the ministry of defence the armed forces are split into three distinct branches:
- Frondesian Army - the ground forces of Frondesia,
- Frondesian Navy - the naval forces of Frondesia,
- Frondesian Aerospace Force - the air and space force of Fronesia,
Additionally, the branches can be split further into the regular forces (full time soldiers and officers) and the reserve forces (the part-time service members).
Structure
The Ministry of Defence of the Frondesian Federation serves as the administrative body of the armed forces. The Supreme Command Council serves as the body of the armed forces responsible for commanding the armed forces, being made up of the commanders of each branch of the armed forces and the chief of the armed forces. The Security Council also has command authority over the armed forces, consisting of senior national officials and being chaired by the Frondesian president.
The President of Frondesia serves as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, being described as "Supreme Commander-in-Chief" in the constitution, and ex officio chairman of the security council. As a result, they have ultimate authority over the armed forces.
The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) serves as the professional head of the armed forces and is the most senior uniformed officer in the armed forces. They usually rank at General or Admiral.
The Frondesian military is split up into three branches - the Frondesian Army, Frondesian Navy and Frondesian Aerospace Force. Each branch has its own chief of staff - the Chief of the General Staff (army), the Chief of the Air Staff (aerospace force) and the Chief of the Naval Staff (navy).
The president appoints the CDS and other branch chiefs of staff.
Recruitment
The Frondesian armed forces recruit from within the Frondesian population. It is highly encouraged that all Frondesians volunteer to serve, provided they are eligible for service.
To be eligible for service applicants have to be a minimum of 16 years old, a full citizen of Frondesia, physically and mentally fit, and not convicted of any crime under Frondesian federal or local law. As well as this, candidates have to be fluent in English and at least secondary school educated.
Currently Frondesia does not have conscription.
