Ajdinland (/ɑːjdɪnlɑːnd/), officially the Kingdom of Ajdinland is an European micronation with two territories that are landlocked fully within the country of Bosnia and Herzegovina [a]. The first ever document confirming Ajdinland's existence was found in a folder on an old computer with a date on it stating that Ajdinland was created on "5.1.2022 15:24" [b]. That date is now celebrated as the Independence day of Ajdinland [c].

Ajdinland had a relatively rough history with two civil wars being fought in the first two years of the country's existence. The first one unfolded in late 2022 and it lasted for a month, and the second one began on January 27th 2023 and lasted over a year until February 29th 2024.

Ajdinland started as a Democratic Republic, and later moved towards a more complicated government type called Democratic Monarchy (similar to elective monarchy). After the second civil war, a massive set of changes took place in Ajdinland, some of which are expansion, redefining the economy, and establishing a full monarchy in the micronation.

History

Before creation

Ajdinland could have ended up very different that what it is today. Ajdin tried creating many micronations before, but all of them fell apart very quickly. So the dream of Ajdinland existed long before it was officially created, and by that logic Ajdinland was born in late 2019.

Before Ajdinland was created, Ajdin made a flag for his apartment, theoretically making the first ever flag of Ajdinland. The flag consisted of a tricolor with french colors, and one golden lilly in every strip.

First flag

Creation

Ajdinland was created as a kingdom but only 3 days after it's creation, it was converted into a Presidential republic. The creation date is defined by the first official Word document about the country statistics (which include area, population and other basic information).

Ajdin was pretty indecisive about what the coat of arms should look like. As much as he liked keeping it simple and clean, he still had the urge to make it complicated and filled out. In the end Ajdin settled on the current coat of arms, a yellow shield-shaped field with a red border and a green crescent moon and star in the middle.

The humble beginnings

Considering king Ajdin was most creative and productive during school period, this is when Ajdinland started picking up speed.

Ajdin used a website called "Yola" to create two official websites for Ajdinland, that he later insisted on taking down. Both of them still show up when searching for "Ajdinland" on Google but they are disabled and inaccessible.

First expansions were made around February 16 when Ajdinland annexed an exclave in the village of VB (one of the todays two territories). It is located where his second home is, where he spends most summers at.

May 1st marked the first diplomatic visit to a different country since the creation of Ajdinland. By spending 7 days in the Norwegian capital of Oslo, he established an embassy in the country.

On May 18 the first valid constitution was written in English and only a few days later translated to Bosnian. A small book of 8 pages had all of the basics covered, including how the micronation would function under the de facto government.

First version of the constitution

More smaller expansions continued for months and more changes and improvements were being made, but nothing too significant.

Dry era

In the summer of 2022, the so called "dry era" started. In this period nothing notable or major really happened in Ajdinland. To counter that, Ajdin sent an email to Kevin Baugh who is probably the most notable micronationalist to exist. He gave Ajdin some compliments and advice on how to improve Ajdinland.

The reason for this is the temporary moving of Ajdin and his family from PT to VB, which later resulted in moving the capital to Ajdingrad from where Ajdin could do diplomatic work easier.

Recent history

The first major expansion of Ajdinland happened on the 1. of August when the territory of VB claimed areas to the south, including a small but famous tourist attraction. At this point in time Ajdinland only had 3 residents, despite having a decent amount of territory. Then on September 16, Ajdin claimed his neighbour's land, and with that increased the population by 1. The following day, Ajdin claimed "some" forest land that his dad owned and more than doubled Ajdinland's territory. With that claim came 50 year skirmishes about the forest land, which would later lead to the civil war.

On September 23rd 2022, the government of Ajdinland voted to write a new constitution which would be way bigger and better than the first one with a lot of changes and additions. To this day, the constitution has still not been finished, with only a couple of first pages written. This is considered a big scandal and it could hurt Ajdin's results in the next elections.

During December 2022 and January 2023, the separatist war of Ajdinland's biggest ally, Ugori was ongoing. Ajdinland never de facto joined the war, but instead heavily supported Ugori and it's other allies.

The first anniversary of Ajdinland's existence was celebrated on January 5th 2023.

This war is one of the most important things to have ever happened in Ajdinland. The war started on 8.10.2022 and lasted 30 days until 7.11.2022 when it ended with a definitive victory of Ajdinland over the rebellious sides.

The war started when Bizonia, Damistan, The Kingdom of Abdul and the Republic of Naraška declared war on The Republic of Ajdinland. Damistan and Naraška broke away from Ajdinland and Bizonia and Abdul were separate micronations. The war was pretty peaceful for the first few weeks but then the bombarding of Ajdinland started on October 22. During the bombing, two buildings were damaged and a big fire started in the north of VB. After the bombing, more aggressive fighting went on until Ajdinland conquered the enemies. As stated in the peace agreement, Bizonia and Naraška were fully integrated into Ajdinland's territory and Bizonia and Abdul were forced to disestablish.

Democratic monarchy

Democratic monarchy is a government type in which a king is elected every 4 years, but that king has complete power and authority over everybody, just like an absolute monarch. The newly elected king can change the constitution, expand and do whatever he wants, but can't change the 4-year mandate in any way including completely abolishing elections without the public voting so. This system puts a lot of pressure on the people since they need to choose wisely or the entire nation will fall and crumble.

The first and latest elections were held on September 1 2022 in which Ajdin took the win and became the King of Ajdinland. These elections were held only 8 months after the creation of Ajdinland and the King will be on power until September 2026.

Ajdinland is split into two regions, "Pokrajina Tuzla" and "Pokrajina Brijesnica". They are the two main political entities in Ajdinland. Below regions are colonies and they have less power in the entity hierarchy. Ajdinland has 14 colonies, 13 in Bosnia and Herzegovina and 1 in Norway. One step down on the hierarchy we get to estates. Estates are subdivisions of the regions and colonies. Some colonies are not split into estates because of their size or structure. On the lowest step of the colony hierarchy are protectorates. They are minimally governed by Ajdinland and they are solely ceremonial and informal. There are 23 protectorates claimed by Ajdinland across 5 different countries.

Pokrajina Tuzla

PT is located in a part of a residential building approximately 120 square meters in area and 20 meters in height. This five story building is home to 14 residents including the King himself. PT was the capital of Ajdinland, but Ajdingrad took that position in mid 2023. PT is made up of 7 estates: Podrum, Prizemlje, First Estate, Second Estate, Third Estate, Fourth Estate and Fifth Estate. These numbers represent the story in which the estate is situated.

Pokrajina Tuzla

Pokrajina Velika Brijesnica

VB is located in a very rural area of the Tuzla Canton and it is a much larger and politically more important region of the nation standing at 25,849 square meters, or practically 98% of the total land area, but only 5 residents. Some areas in this region are on a slope of over 45 degrees, making them inaccessible. Most of the western part of the region consists of agricultural land and fields where different types of farm animals eat and walk around in. The large forest area in the east of the region is home to many squirrels and other small wildlife. In the center of this region you will find a very nice area with the most famous tourist attraction in Ajdinland which is the Spomen česma "Vodica". Vodica is a rock and concrete structure that is used as a memorial fountain. Around it there are some benches and a picnic table. There are 13 buildings in VB including houses, garages and farmhouses. VB is made out of 11 estates: Western Ajdinland, Dževad Estate, Mevludin Estate, Damistan, Vodica Estate, Hasić Estate, Estate Remzet, Potokani, Naraška, Forest Estate and the Sejdinović Estate where VB's capital Ajdingrad is located.

PT has no roads within it's territory, but there is a large staircase going through the middle of it connecting the five stories.

On the other hand, VB has about 389 meters of road. There is an airport in Ajdingrad (unofficial IATA code-AJG) that has two runways, one is a grass strip, and the other one is made out of concrete. Some plans were made to implement a metro system in the region, but unsurprisingly due to the small economy of Ajdinland, that idea is impossible to execute.

The climate of Ajdinland can get pretty rough since temperatures can go through a change of 60 degrees per year (from +45 to -15). Climate change is severely damaging the beautiful snowy weather that used to be usual in these areas, with up to 1 meter of snow at some points. Every factor is more or else shared with average Bosnian climate, which should be no surprise since Ajdinland is completely surrounded by it.

Seismology

Seismology falls under the institute for geology and seismology of Ajdinland, or the GSCA (Geološko-Seizmološki Centar Ajdinlanda).

Since Ajdinland's creation, there have been several earthquakes that affected Ajdinland and it's residents and some caused slight damage and shifted objects around. Maximum Mercalli intensity ever felt in Ajdinland is intensity VI.

Politics, Diplomacy and foreign relations

Ajdinland's government is made up of the King, the prime minister and other ministers. In total there are 12 ministers in the government that are in charge of:

  • Foreign relations,
  • Education,
  • Traffic,
  • Health,
  • Tourism,
  • Sales,
  • Agriculture,
  • Defense,
  • Police,
  • Finances,
  • Culture, and
  • Sport.

"Stranka Samostalnih Lidera" (the party of independent leaders), or shortly SSL is the leading party in Ajdinland. SSL had a very big advantage in the elections of 2022, it being that nobody from other parties wanted to candidate for the elections, and with that easily handing the win to SSL.

The biggest ally of Ajdinland is the Ugori Islamic People's Emirate which is a micronation inspired by Ajdinland and created in early March 2022.

Flag of the Ugori Emirate

Ajdinland has also developed political relations with Molossia, the Grand Duchy of Slawenland, Unremia, the United Consulate States, Rïzeryska People's Jamahiriya, and all members of WOM (World Organization of Micronations).

APW

APW (A Peaceful World) is a defensive organisation made to protect all of it's members. Ajdinland is the founder and the representative of the organisation.

APW logo

APW currently has 3 members: Ajdinland, Ugori and the United Consulate States. Certain criteria must be met when entering this union, so the process of joining can be complicated and can take a long time. Ajdinland and Ugori are the founders of APW and for now they are the only two nations that hold seats in the organization's parliament. The United Consulate States joined in January 2024, and until the next parliament assignment they will stay without seats in the parliament.

Embassies

Ajdinland has established 17 embassies[g] with ambassadors across the globe. They are led by people close to Ajdinland such as relatives and close friends. They function both as a part of the home country they are in, and as a territory of Ajdinland. If a foreign military enters or occupies the area of the embassy, it is effectively the same as entering and occupying a part of Ajdinland.

Economy

The economy of Ajdinland is relatively small, even though employment is at a 100%. Most of the nation's income comes from a family in the west of VB that own cows and sheep that they use for production of dairy products such as milk, yogurt, cheese and sour cream. Other larger sources of income come from the vegetable, fruit and jam industries. Car mechanic industry also contributes decent amounts of money to boost the economy of Ajdinland.

1 Sejlar coin

Ajdinland's currency, among others, is Sejlar. Sejlar was created in late May 2022. In it's early days, Sejlar's value variated and it had it's ups and downs, but lately Sejlar's value has stayed the same. One Sejlar today equals to 0,5 Bosnian convertible mark.

Army

Ajdinland's army consists of 18 soldiers (additional residents with gifted citizenship are allowed to join the army), out of which 12 are in VB's "Jastrebovi" Brigade, and 6 in PT's "Lakići" Brigade. During the civil war, Jastrebovi were fighting off the enemy lines, and with them was the king Ajdin.

Anthem

Ajdinland adopted a new anthem after the peace treaty on February 29th 2024, but it has not been completed. The composition of that anthem is the same as the composition of the Norwegian anthem, but, of course, the lyrics have been changed. Just the first stanza of "Ajdinlande" has been written and completed, and the others are yet to be finished. Ajdinland's previous anthem was called "Ajdinlande moj" and it consisted of 49 words. It was the last needed element for Ajdinland to apply to the UN, even though it never did.

Lyrics of the anthem

Lyrics of the first stanza of "Ajdinlande" in Bosnian:

Ajdinlande, zemljo naša draga,
mi te volimo!
Od tebe nam nema većeg blaga,
do tog držimo!
Preko kolonija tvojih svih,
Preko Brijesnice,
𝄆 Sve do zvijezda blistavih,
(Sve) Do zvijezde Danice! 𝄇

Lyrics of "Ajdinlande moj" in Bosnian:

Tvoje trešnje i voćke tvoje,
tvoja trava i razne boje.
Nema ništa ljepše na dunjaluku
osim tebe Ajdinlande moj.
Divlje koke, vjeverice, kosovi,
čuda svakakvih ima svuda.
Nebo se plavi, sunce jarko sija,
a na zemlji maslačak tek klija.
Trešnje žute radost meni daju,
dok sa grana dole padaju.

Translation to English:

Lyrics of the first stanza of "Ajdinlande" in English:

Ajdinland, our dear land,
we love you!
To us there is no bigger treasure than you,
we stick to that!
Over all your colonies,
Over Brijesnica,
𝄆 All the way to the sparkling stars,
(All the way) to the star of Danica! 𝄇

Lyrics of "Ajdinlande moj" in English:

Your cherries and your fruits,
your grass and different colors.
There is nothing prettier in the whole world,
than you my Ajdinland.
Wild chickens, squirrels, blackbirds,
all types of animals are everywhere.
The sky is blue, the sun shines brightly,
and on the ground dandelions are just growing.
Yellow cherries give me happiness,
whilst they fall down from the branches.

National symbols

  • Ajdinland's flag has great symbolism. The chosen color palette of blue, white and yellow represents the colors on the Bosnian flag, and the green crescent moon symbolizes the Muslim majority in the nation.
Flag of Ajdinland
  • Ajdinland's national animal is a farm goat named "Hašima". She is named after "Hašim", a long deceased previous goat. Hašima's photo is now printed on Sejlar coins to represent Ajdinland.
  • The national flower of the nation is chosen to be dandelion, due to the large amounts of it.
  • The national dish of Ajdinland is "Nanin hljeb" (Grandma's bread). I could write an entire article on how good it is, but long story short, the best bread you'll ever try.

Etymology

The etymology of Ajdinland is very simple. The name "Ajdinland" is made out of two words, founder Ajdin's name, and the suffix "land". This name was settled on because it's pronounceable and recognizable in both Bosnian and English.

This name has been called egoistic and self-centric on several occasions, but it's still definitely here to stay. A referendum was held in 2023 to attempt to change the name of the micronation, but even though king Ajdin accepted to hold the referendum, it was ultimately cancelled and never rescheduled.

Before settling on "Ajdinland", there were proposals to call the nation "Ajdinia" or "Ajdonija". Another proposal was "The United Ajdin Emirates" or shortly "Ajdin's Emirates". Some ridiculous proposals were "Ćiland (Chiland)" and "Lakićka Unija (Lakić Union)".

From these names we can easily confirm that Ajdin is not creative with names.

Culture

Ajdinland's culture is cluttered with different Bosnian traditions since the King doesn't want to forget where his and Ajdinland's roots come from.

TV and Radio

Ajdinland has an official TV channel named ATV (Ajdinland TV) and a radio station ALR (Ajdinland Radio). The TV program casts multiple different TV sitcoms, shows and a regular news program.

Every so often, breaking news are broadcasted on the channel, some of them being the beginning and the end of the civil war, a plane crash in northern Ajdinland, the disestablishment of Romsås and so on.

Sports

There is a weekly football (soccer) game every Saturday/Sunday that gathers many participants, usually resulting in the win of the team "Brijesnica". Smaller sport games occasionally occur every month or so including hide-n-seek and most notably a board game called "čovječe ne ljuti se" whose championships have been a monthly event for about 9 years.

Ajdinland has a national football team that has seen great success in the Cup of micronations, which is a monthly competition between micronations held in random participating countries. It is similar to the classic World cup.

Music

Even though there are no singers in Ajdinland, people of the nation thoroughly enjoy Bosnian music. The so called "narodna muzika" is very famous in VB, since most of the citizens grew up with that type of music.

Social media

Very close to VB, there is a house of a famous Bosnian streamer and youtuber Amir Hadžić who has nearly 400,000 subscribers. He has passed through the territory multiple times and also greeted the King himself.

Ajdinland Republic Official is the name of the official YouTube channel launched by Ajdin. It has only two videos but there are some that are unlisted.

Languages

Ajdinland has 3 official languages. The first one is English with it's variations (used in official documents), second is Bosnian, and lastly Nidjan, an unique language created in 2022.

Ajdinland recognizes Norwegian (Bokmål), Croatian, Cyrillic Serbian, German and Hungarian as the national languages.

Nidjanski

Nidjan has it's own unique alphabet called Sejceda and it has 34 letters ranging from classic Latin ones, Bosnian unique letters, and Norwegian letters that are represented by the unique alphabet. It is considered to be a slavic language because of it's roots and the style of Sejceda.

The main rule of Nidjan is that it's written and spoken the same as Bosnian, but just backwards. The order of words is the same, it's just the words themselves which are inverted. Bosnian only covers 30 letters, but the letters "č" and "ć" were merged to simplify the language. That leaves 5 letters, and those are "W, Q, X, Y" and "Æ". If we just kept to the rule in which normal Bosnian is inverted, these letters wouldn't be used. Because of this, Nidjan has special occasions in which you put these letters in words.

More rules were created to simplify the already difficult language. For example, only a selected couple of words need to have a capital letter at the beginning it.
