The Vice Chief Justice of the United Federation is the second highest justice on the Supreme Court of the United Federation after the Chief Justice. The office is not always in use and was established alongside the office of chief justice on 4 March 2023.
Constitutionally, the office of vice chief justice is not defined as a national office like the chief justice is. Instead the office was created as a senior judicial office not mandated by the constitution.
Powers and Duties
The vice chief justice has some additional duties besides the standard ones they have as an associate justice. These additional duties include:
- Aiding the Chief Justice
- Acting as Chief Justice in the Event of an Incapacitation
- Administering Some Oaths to Government Officials
- Aiding in the Management of the Supreme Court
Appointment
The Chief Justice can nominate a supreme court justice, typically the most senior, to become his or her vice. The President then takes the nominations to the Senate and appoints the officeholder on the advice and consent of the senate.
