Valen (High Napranian: Ва̄лен), officially Dzielnica Valen (High Napranian: Sѥлница Ва̄лен), is the capital city and only federal district of the Grand Duchy of Valenowa. It resides in the Northern half of Valenowa, and borders the US State of Wisconsin to the North, the Valenian Voivodeship of Casura (High Napranian: Кашура) to the Southeast, and the Valenian Voivodeship of Bolchidow (High Napranian: Больхидóв) to the Southwest. The federal district is often confused with the Royal City of Valen, the area's municipal government. It is one of several surviving provinces created by the Grand Duchy of Naprzódsk.
History
Grand Duchy of Naprzódsk
Valen was founded as the Province of Valen on 25 August 2020, and has shifted borders several times since then. It was officially declared the capital and federal district of the Grand Duchy of Naprzódsk sometime in early 2022, and would serve as such until the nation's collapse in early 2023. Valen played host to the first headquarters of the Napranian Royal Defense Corps, and acted as a financial, political, and economic hub for Naprzódsk throughout the majority of its existence.
Polonian Presidential Dependency of Valenowa
Following the founding of the Polonian Presidential Dependency of Valenowa (Old Napranian: Жаленоцы Прешыцыѥ Полонѥ Валенова) in Spring of 2023, Valen was immediately declared the capital city and only federal district of the nation. It was during this time that the district's borders were redrawn for the final time, bringing it into its current form. Today, Valen hosts Castle Zamorski (High Napranian: Замек Заморски), the seat of the Valenian government, and serves as the economic, financial, and political headquarters of Valenowa.
Development
Dzielnica Valen contains all of Valenowa's 9 greenhouses, as well as a barn and agricultural vehicle bay. Checkpoint Alpha, one of three entry points to the Grand Duchy of Valenowa, is also located within the district.
Etymology
The exact origin of the word "Valen" is unknown, though the general consensus remains that the word originates from the English word "valiant." This has neither been confirmed nor denied by current Grand Duke of Valenowa, Michał I Walenowski. Another theory is that the word is taken directly from Old Napranian Вілен (Wálen), which refers to the legendary King of the same name.
Government
Dzielnica Valen is governed by the Royal City of Valen, the only remaining fief under the direct control of the Royal House of Valenowa, the House of Walenski, which is currently headed by Michał I, Grand Duke of Valenowa. The district is governed entirely by a council of technocrats, all of whom are executively appointed by the Grand Duke. The seat of this council is located at Castle Zamorski, along with the office and estate of the Royal Family.
Geography
The geography of Dzienlica Valen is entirely flat, with the soil consisting primarily of a mineral-rich sand mixture which was historically utilized in the mixture of the concrete that makes up the foundations of all buildings within the district, as well as the walls and foundations of Fort Bolesław. Valen exists within a temperate climate zone, similarly to the rest of the Grand Duchy of Valenowa.
