Almiagrad (High Napranian: Ałmiagród), officially Almian Voivodeship (High Napranian: Województwa Ałmiagródski), and commonly referred to as Almiagrad, Ałmiagrać, or Ałmiagrad, is a voivodeship, or province, of the Grand Duchy of Valenowa. It resides in the Western half of Valenowa, and shares a border with the United States. Its capital and administrative center is the settlement of Sobieski. Prior to 13 November 2023, Ałmiagród was known as Almiagrad Province.
History
Grand Duchy of Naprzódsk
Almiagrad Province was first founded on 3 September 2020 by Michał I of Valenowa, following the 25 August founding of the Grand Duchy of Naprzódsk. The province saw no development or infrastructure throughout the existence of the Grand Duchy of Naprzódsk, and was dissolved following its collapse in early 2023.
Polonian Presidential Dependency of Valenowa
Following the founding of the Polonian Presidential Dependency of Valenowa in Spring of 2023, Almiagrad Province was renamed and redesignated as Ałmiagrać Voivodeship (later Ałmiagród Voivodeship), and its borders shifted slightly to accompany several new subdivisions. It was renamed once more in November of 2023 as the Almian Voivodeship.
Development
The restoration of the fortifications at Sobieski Hill began in earnest in Summer of 2023, following a number of restoration and conservation policies signed by Michał I. As they sit today, the fortifications consist of a main trench, two fire steps, two parapets, and earthen walls reinforced with locally sourced lumber and stone. The settlement of Sobieski was officially founded on 19 December 2023, and immediately designated as the capital of Ałmiagród. Agricultural maintenance within the province remains ongoing.
Etymology
Ałmiagród, formerly Almiagrad and Ałmiagrać, was named for its proximity to the Forest of the Gods (Old Napranian: Ałmia Bogy), with the word "ałmia" being translated to "forest." The suffix "-grad" in Old Napranian was traditionally affixed to the end of a place name to denote its status as a large plot of protected land, similarly to the suffixes "-burg" and "-ville." The word was changed to "-grać" in 2023 as part of a series of significant revisions to the Napranian dictionary, and then once more to "-gród" in 2024 during the Slavicization of the Napranian language.
Government
The local government of Ałmiagród, called the Provincial Council, is headed primarily by the Grand Duke of Valenowa, and secondarily by the Governor of Ałmiagrać. The Governor works in conjunction with a set of representatives, and is similarly elected by popular vote. The future seat of the Governor will be located at Sobieski, within the planned Department of Provincial Affairs building. As of 19 December 2023, the office of the Governor of the Almian Voivodeship is vacant.
Geography
The soil in and around the Almian Voivodeship largely consists of sand and clay, upon which sits a number of forests and prairies. The province's climate is described as temperate, with similar high and low temperatures to the rest of Valenowa, and weather patterns varying based on a number of conditions. It sits beside a natural bog, which provides a varied ecosystem and sustainable water source for the surrounding flora and fauna.
